KVL 3000 PLUS KEYLOADER (IC-F70)

Post by EXCALLIBER »

I`ve just received a batch of IC-F70D radio`s from a local enforcement group & need a KVL3000 PLUS to carry
out the encryption work. Can anyone help me out with details of a supply for a good second-hand unit.
This has to be the Plus version as I need to carry out both DES & AES encryption.
Also need supplier for programming cables:- OPC-1536 (radio-to-radio) and OPC-1558 (KVL to radio`s)
Any help would be much appreciated.

You might get lucky on ebay, but I don't think there's too many of those things floating around out there for sale. They can be flashed for whatever encryption needed, so people don't tend to part with them because they've switched to a different algorithm, etc. You're likely best off going with Motorola (or dealer) directly.

The last time that I checked with the local Motorola dealer, the KVL3000+ flash for DES-OFB was substantially more than the flash for AES-256. I think that the price for both was at least $2K.

Good luck - you may have luck checking government surplus auctions, but don't hold your breath.

I just paid for an AES-256 upgrade for my KVL3000+, if you have to do the same get ready to part with a cool grand ($1028). The plus models are out there you will just have to do a bit of searching. most of them are DES only (des,des-xL, and Des-OFB) so if you want AES you will probably have to order it from mother motorola and that is not easy for an individual. I have seen them for sale here and ebay that were loaded with multiple algos but they too are not cheap.

good luck.

I`ve so far managed to get a supplier for the cables I require OPC-1536 & OPC-1558.
Am I correct in saying that the standard KVL3000 can be upgraded for DES & AES features?
I have seen one on ebay for $499 with all accessories & this unit has flash enabled!

I think it could be upgraded, but motorola stopped support for them a while back. those that are on ebay now might work for you if they have astro 25 mode. i dont think they have aes-256 in them though.

the "non-plus" KVL3000 *CANNOT* be upgraded to support AES

you must have a KVL3000+ to load AES keys

The only ones on Ebay for $499.00 is just the plain KVL3000(NON PLUS MODEL).

As others have said, the Plus models are the only models capable of of having or being upgradeable to include AES-256 algorithm.

Normally, when I have seen the KVL3000+ with DES(DES-OFB/DES-XL)and AES-256,ON eBAY,They sell for over $2,000!!LOL.Last KVL3000+Plus with DES(DES-OFB/DES-XL),AES-256 with Astro 25 mode sold on Ebay months ago for $2,400!!

It has been months since I have seen a KVL3000+ even on Ebay, let alone one flashed with AES-256.KVL3000+(Plus)units are hard to come by on Ebay. The units flashed with AES-256 is rare to come by on Ebay.

Here are KVL3000+ prices that I found scribbled down from a year ago:

KVL3000+ (blank) $1000
AES flash $750
DES-OFB flash $1550
Astro 25 flash $250
ASN flash $600
XTS KVL cable - $75

These were verbal quotes for budget purposes from the local dealer.

There's a 3000+ with AES sitting at $1500 on EBay right now.
