XTS/MTS/Saber Impres charger - any adapters for Trbo?
Can you get a battery insert so that you can use an XTS5000 / MTS2000 / Saber Impres charger to charge a Trbo XPR6550 or XRP7550?

Yes. I got one from Rick Thompson on E-bay. It allows me to use my Jedi/Saber/XTS3000/5000 Impres charger to charge my XPR6550/7550 Impres batteries. Motorola makes the adapter, but they don't sell it separately. It comes as part of an analyzer package, but Rick sells the part for about $35. Similar to the Saber adapter that popped into the STX/MX charger. GARY

Thanks Gary - good to know!!!

They actually do make a different one that was not part of the battery reader kit that you can order separate.
NNTN8619
Its listed for the apx4000 but they use the same batteries.

I've been thinking about this for a while! Just never bothered to ask...
n3obl, I can't find that part number on MOL or Google... could you double check for me? Thanks!

As a temporary measure, can I use an XTS/MTS Impres charger WITHOUT the adapter to charge a Trbo battery?
Do the Trbo battery pads line up with the XTS charger pins - so I can use some "cardboard" padding and tape or whatever to temporarily get the battery charged? Or is there some electronics in the adapter?
Thanks

When the Jedi first came out, I couldn't find a charger, so I used a Saber charger, & a match book to hold the battery in place, so in that case the pins lined up. But on my XPR adapter, it has it's own pins that contact the battery. GARY

I just did a search and the NNTN8169A XPR adapter for the "shoe" type XTS Impres charger (WPLN4114) just looks like a bit of plastic with a couple of "guide rails" for the battery slots so that the battery lines up with the charger pins OK. I can't see any additional metal "extension" pins in the actual adapter?

Re: XTS/MTS/Saber Impres charger - any adapters for Trbo?
The description for that says APX4000. The seller sent me that, & it wouldn't work. It would not hold my XPR6550/7550 batteries. He then realized he sent me the wrong adapter, so he sent me the correct one with the pins that work correctly. There is no part number on my adapter, & I was told it's not for sale. Maybe that one is, but it wouldn't fit my batteries. PM me your e-mail addy, & I'll send you a photo. GARY

Thanks.
The Fleabay listing says the NNTN8169A insert works with the XPR7750...but no mention of the XPR6550. You also need to use an XTS Impres charger which has firmware 3.4 or later.
Gary - I think I read that you used an early version PMKN4012A cable to program your XPR7550.
I now have an "A" version but have read that you need a "B" version for the 7550..the 6550 still programs OK with the "A" version.
Its possible to mod an "A" into a "B" by just adding a wire link. Have you done this mod or are you still using the older "A" version to program your XPR7550 without any issues?

Yes, I'm still using the "A" cable for my 6550, & 7550. I purchased the "A" cable from a friend who sold it to me because he was buying a 7550, & thought he needed the "B" cable, but he should have tried the "A" cable before buying the "B" cable. Neither he, nor I did the mod to the "A" cable. Works on my 6580 too. GARY

Thanks Gary.
I've done more reading and there seems to be many dire warning about using the "A" cable on a 7550 - it looks like its a grounding issue which can causes excess voltages...may be it all depends on the particular pc used to program the 7550 so sometimes it works OK??
I'm not sure whether I should risk it!!
There also seems to be 2 mods - unsolder black wire and solder it to brown wire pad OR leave black wire in place and solder small wire link between black and brown wire solder pads...not sure which mod is best?

Re: XTS/MTS/Saber Impres charger - any adapters for Trbo?
The A version of the cable uses a ground on the circular set of contacts on the side of the xpr6550. The xpr7550 does not have that connector on the side of the radio. Both mods should work fine. Moving the wire changes the ground contact from the circular connector to one of the other grounded pins. I don't see any reason why a jumper between the two wouldn't work. On mine, I did the move the wire mod and it works great for the 7550 and 6550's.

Hey tdats, did you try to use the "A" cable on your 7550 before you installed the jumper? GARY
Re: XTS/MTS/Saber Impres charger - any adapters for Trbo?
yeah I did, and it did not work. The computer did not even detect the radio was connected from what I remember.
The modified cable works fine on our 6550's and my 7550.
Being that it is a ground connection issue, I wounder if some sort of other ground between the computer and the radio might make an A cable work. Maybe a radio sitting in a charger plugged into the same outlet as the laptop? Battery eliminator? Just tossing out some brainstorming ideas here. Seems we did kinda hijack the thread though.

Thanks for the reply. I just don't understand why my 7550 works with an unmodified "A" cable. My radio just sits on the dining room table next to the laptop & programs fine. GARY
