HT1000 Sudden Death

I have a UHF HT1000 that I was preparing to reprogram. It worked fine, powered up and tested OK. I pulled the battery for a minute and after replacing the battery the rig was totally dead. It won't even attempt to beep when the turned on. The battery is not the problem-it's working fine on another rig and so are a ocuple of others I tested with. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to revive this rig?

Have you check the fuse to see if it is blown?

Couple things i would check.
First the HT1000 consists of two boards, a logic and an RF board. There were two styles of connections between these two boards, both have given us problems over the years with intermittent operation especially after being dropped.
There is also a chip fuse on the board right by the battery connectors which may have failed. The shield has been known to pop after being dropped and shorts, blowing the fuse.
Also check the flex from the front panel is properly seated.

Thanks for the suggestions gentlemen. I wasn't sure about the fuse or it's location till now. I reckon I'll be tearing everything down tonight to see if I can breate some life back into the rig.

Turn the radio "off" before you pull the battery off....most likely, that started the problem? Ed

This is a nice radio to open.If u have a second ht1000 it is very fast to trade parts and fix it.

Working with motorola its hard to really believe anything anymore. your point is made! So I'll send a letter to "moto" asking them to remove the part in the ops. manual that says (under Battery Installation/Removal) Turn the radio off...

I'm curious, does anyone know what the radio model revision for the HT1000 was that Mot first fixed this problem? I've got a "D" version. Also, I assume this was also on the MT2000 and other Jedi series too?

Just to clear (or maybe muddy?) the issue-
The radio had not been dropped-I'd just pulled it off the storage shelf and it was off when swapping batteries. I'll keep looking and let y'all know' Again, thanks for all the assistance.

I can't deny it! What amazes me is how tough a product this rig was - usually I can kill anything with a CPU and a program in a couple of minutes This made it a couple of years.

All Jedi type radios made before October 1997 have the old frame. The are serial numbers xxxATAxxxx through xxxAXVxxxx. The frame part number is visible below the labels on the back of the radio.
The old part number is 1505892U01.
The new part number is 1505892U06.

Nand -

I have two new HT1000s made in September and November of 2002. The part number on the frame is 1505892U01. Any ideas why this might be?

Thanks for looking that up. Perhaps the new part number is only on replacement frames ordered as a repair part? At least, I'd like to think that since it bothers me a little if these new radios do in fact have the old problem prone frame design. One other thing I noticed is a circle near the top of the frame with a "D1" stamped in it. The serial number for that unit is 402TCS5316Z. The other radio has a "D2" stamped in the circle and its serial number is 402TCW1066Z. Finally, next to the frame part number is a circle with a "R" stamped into it on both radios. Are these clues of any kind in your opinion? Thanks again, Nand.
