I know this is off topic. A friend bought an Astro Spectra. It is set up
for a hand-held control head. Can it be changed for an A7 control head
without major modification?

Re: Astro Head
Obviously you need the control head parts but he interconnect on the drawer unit should be changed and an "new" s-record will need to be forced into the radio and the tuning values transferred.

Re: Astro Head
A little better information, he currently has a Spectra and wants to change out the "drawer" to an Astro.

And or a complete realignment and calibration. The command board to control head interface boards are different, so you do need one for a W7 control head.jmr061 wrote:"new" s-record will need to be forced into the radio and the tuning values transferred.
Re: Astro Head
So I understand this. He currently has an A7 spectra radio installed (assuming remote mount by the sounds of it) and he bought a W3 Astro Spectra drawer and wants to put that in it's place?TARRA_Mick wrote:A little better information, he currently has a Spectra and wants to change out the "drawer" to an Astro.
If that is the case he should change the interface board on the drawer unit to the correct one for the W7 control head. He will need to push a W7 srecord into the radio and tune or transfer the values and get a W7 control head (at least the board) as the A7 and W7 are not interchangeable.
