APX8000XE Battery Drain

I just purchased a brand new APX8000XE to replace my APX7000. With the 7000, I could go almost 2 days before needing to charge the battery. I'm lucky to get 8 hours with the 8000 using the same battery. Both radios are used as scanners only. Is this normal for the 8000 to drain batteries faster or should I be sending it for repair?

Which battery are you using? Is WIFI and Bluetooth on? GPS? I just got my hands on the 5100mah Impres-2 for the Reg 8000 I have, no issues yet, but its only been a few days...

I have observed the same thing. My APX7000 can go for days. I began using an APX8000 about a year ago. It can kill a battery in 8 hours easily.

Another concern for me is that the APX8000 always seems warm to the touch after it has been running for a few hours. I can leave it sitting on a conventional frequency that his little to no traffic. RX only. Wifi and Bluetooth disabled. And it will still be warm.

This hasn't really hampered my use. But it sure has helped me to increase the charge counts on my IMPRES batteries. On the upside - the convenience of the APX8000 has been fantastic.

Thanks for your reply. I am using the shorter 2900mAh battery. The WIFI, GPS and Bluetooth are all disabled.

Thanks for your reply. I think the shorter battery life might just be something I will need to get used to.

I haven't experienced the issue you are having with the radio getting warm, but I will watch (and feel) for it.

I agree this is a great little radio and its much more convenient than having 2 APX 7000's.

Are you using permanent display backlight?

In my testing I've had the same experience.

NNTN7038A
APX8K: 12 Hours
APX7: 16-18 Hours

All extra wireless features are turned off (bluetooth, GPS, Wifi).

Yep, me too. Only get about 2/3rds of the life (on standby) as a 7K, with wireless and backlight off.

Also noticed that the 8Ks run noticeably a bit warmer (over the keypad area) in standby mode.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I guess I will just need to get used to switching out batteries more often. It is very nice to only need one radio now.

I do have the permanent back light option disabled. I have also noticed the radio does get warm in the keypad area.
