i bought a W&W battery recently, and when i got it, i charged it numerous times, draining it down all the way, then charging it up as much as i can. the battery would go green in about 15 minutes, if that. it would only last about an hour or less. this is a brand new DD dated saber battery of the highest capacity. thier model HC-060VM-4595M 2700MAH Ni-Mh. The plot gets worse, i sent it back to them, they sent me another new one, this one cycles thru the self test and then lights up the BAD battery orange indicator! i have tried leaving it on overnight hoping it would put a little charge in it enough to get it to charger solid red, NOPE! so next i try feeding the battery power from a 9 volt battery to the top connectors with the radio removed, the battery took a very small charge, i would say it charged to what i would expect for holding a 9Volt battery on there for 1 minute, then i put the ww saber battery in the charger, still goes to bad indicator. my next idea is this, is there a setting in the charger that i can adjust the sensitivity of the charger to not be so picky? also what are your expierences with other manufacturers saber batterys? check the poll, if you know another company that makes aftermarket batteries, let me know i will add it to the list.

I would say Multiplier has the best aftermarket battereis out ther, some say they are different than the OEM but it is funny that they make a good portion of the OEM battereis for Kenwood, Vertex, BK radio, Racal, Harris, and even Motorola. NY City uses the Saber battereis from Multiplier for about 8 yrs and still comes back, and the Feds use them extensivley, so that is a pretty good refence. I have never had a problem with them.

I see you didnt list Jabro and they are dead last here/too many problems and failures= Id rather go to smoke signals than use the Jabro battery!

I agree with all the others, Multiplier rocks, even their NiCD batteries are amazing!

I agree that Multiplier batteries are good, but I've had good luck with W&W batteries (and inserts) as well; I suspect you've managed to hit two bad apples in a row, and I'd be surprised if W&W didn't replace right away and with zero hassle. I've had good luck with them.

The symptoms of both of the batteries you describe indicate one bad cell, and in latter case, one of the cells is shorted. That is not recoverable, and in a new battery, neither is acceptable.

Jabro does not exist anymore, they merged with Alexander and are now called LexStar technologies, they no longer make the battereis in the USA they are made in China and Mexico

So far the best saber batteries seem to be coming from Battery Zone in New jersey. I charge mine overnight and its on from 7am till midnight. btw its a 1800 Mah.

On the original post, is the charger made for NiMH batteries????

I know that some chargers do not correctly charge NimH batteries, not sure what the difference in the chargers realy is, STAN????

yes the batteries are Ni-Mh batteries, it is a new condition saber astro charger.

We have purchased 100's of batteries from W & W
with just two failures and replaced with no hassle.
Yes the different types of batteries need different chargers.
We also use the charger/conditioer from W & W

Maybe we have different air in Canada??

1 year warrantty.

W&W batteries do suck. I bought one a few years ago....failed within two weeks.....second battery, same deal.

Makes a nice paperweight though!

Yeah no doubt the best battery is still the M battery in most cases.
Just try to get one at the lowest possible price even if it is NOS,
and out (or near) of warranty, It's still new and unused and will
often be cheaper (and better) than some other new fake battery.

failing that, then go Multiplier.

Kendoo is real bad often using chineese cells, and have a very
poor fit on some radios (notably the Saber) making it unuseable
for that radio at all. If you drop the radio with that battery even
once, then you will need an other battery gauranteed. Unless you
use duct tape or something

Mine went in the trash can the same
day I got it, since I dropped the radio on the floor and the battery
cracked in half with several large splinter pieces as well.

A factory battery will NEVER do that. Not in a million years.
