Changing controller on an MTS2000

hi,

just wondering if there was anything special i needed to consider when replacing the controller on a limited keypad to make it a full keypad? any A7 controller for a mts2000 will do correct? thanks ahead of time!

before you buy another controller take a look inside the exsiting radio and see which style controller you have in it now. In the early series of MTS radios you could just unplug the controller and remove it from the attacthed rf deck, in the later series Motorola got wise and started soldering them to the rf deck!! Also, you already know to make sure the new controller is compatable with the bandsplit of the exsisting radio.

alrighty! now, with the controller being compatable with the bandsplit does it also have to be compatable with the flash also (these are smartnet radios, does the controller have to be from a smartnet radio?) thanks

Yes, it will need to be able to at least do Smartnet type 2 if that's what you are using it for. Also , if you are on a system using Smartzone operation it would be a good idea for that option to exsit in the new controller.

FYI, that's actually backwards. The early MTS radios (pre-'94) had a soldered ribbon cable between the 2 boards. There have been at least two versions of plug-in connectors since, but they have never gone back to the old soldered cable.
