What kind of antenna is this?

hi all,

i am wondering the proper name for this antenna on ebay? the auction is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... egory=4672
! i think it is called a dipole antenna? if you know; what is the part # for it also? and does anyone have any forsale? my county requires these antennas to be on all mts2000s! thanks

I beleive they are simply called the 800Mhz Dipole antenna.

You can find them cheap on eBay, but Motorola charges outrageous prices for them- I forget exactly how much, but for a new one on eBay for $6, you can't go wrong (that's how much mine cost) and it does the job too. I have yet to find a better portable antenna for the 800Mhz band. The 1/2wave whip works well, but the dipole takes the cake.

A 5/8 wave 860 mHz antenna figures out to about 8+ inches, so it might well be a 5/8, in which it would have gain. If it's wired internally as a dipole, in which case it would be about 13 inches long, it wouldn't have any gain whatsoever. The spec sheet for the antenna would tell the whole story if you could get hold of one.

The antenna is about 8 inches long, however, it feels as if there is a hard shaft in the middle. It is flexible both near the base and at the tip- not in the middle though. It would lead me to believe that it may be wired up with a quarter wave pointed up and another pointing down, fed from the center.

Kind of an elevated feed antenna. The bottom section which is sheet metal under the neoprene gives a better ground plane.
