Hi:
Traxar., Mostar....
Classified as Motorola's " Lemon " radio.
Absolutely NOTHING availible for them anymore.
No RSS, NO MIB ( Mostar Interface Box ) No Diagrams,
and basiclly a useless radio unless you enjoy target
practice,
We set them out @ about 300 ~ 400 yards, and take
shots at them with a 243......Get even time for hours
of painfull work keeping them alive under contract.
One of the few radios Motorola ever made which
had " Torque " specs on the Shield covers to make
them work....Vibration made them inop.
I have one in my musuem, and its a Brand New Radio
in the box.
You guessed it, it does not work !!

wow,
I must be in the really slim minority here when I say that I have a 16ch uhf mostar, with display that I like....
It has nice loud audio, and works really well for me....
Dale, Kb9rre, programmed it for me, and it works great!
It doesnt compete with a maxtrac, but it is a nice radio for it's age....

There are still quite a few out there working...
I agree that working on them was an "art". But I still have the MIB and cables and can still program them. Before my "old eyes" started going bad, I had a knack for finding the cracked solder connections around the chip caps under the shields and........if you didn't put the shields back on just right.......microphonics hell. Sometimes ya gotta wonder what the heck the engineers where thinking when they designed this stuff.
When you got a good one, you got a great radio.

- What radios do you own?: XTS3000/astro spectra/
I picked up an 800 Mhz mostar, it is a mostar smartnet. i picked it up for 3$ because i remember batlabs made a comment about some special 800 mostars used an STX portable controller in it, i tore it apart, yes unscrewing the massive shielding and BINGO! look at the stx controller!
i am wondering if i can get the mostar to do a conventional freq if the stx controller can be programed for a system position to be conventional, that would be cool! also would be cool to pop in a type II stx controller and get it to do type II, dunno if the radio will like the extra ideas i am proposing, but might be worth a try!
any body tried either idea, or another cool trick with a stx controlled mostar?

That would be the helical resonator assembly on the control board. Lord knows I got to replace enough of the frelling things...KH wrote:bonus question---what's 01-80710T66? I know....
I'm surprised I remembered that, honestly. It has been at least 15 years since I last worked on one of those lemons.
