Not sure, but that CPS is also capable of programming the 1250/1550
portables. The grayed in box might be for a feature not available on the 750 ?

4 channel doesn't have priority scan....

Post by Charlie »

16 channel does......according to the dealer price pages......In addition the 4 channel does not have Quick Call II decode but the 16 channel does.

Check out the new CP200 4 or 16 Channel portable which does have both those features, and a whole lot more, better RX, user friendly software and a great price.

So the 4 channels won't do priority scan, and it looks like they won't do MDC either...

Now, how do I tell this customer that his older HT1000s will do wht he wants but his new(er) radios won't?

Or, who knows how to diddle this codeplug into thinking it's a 16?

Somebody should have told that poor guy that bought that beat up Pinto that it wouldn't drive like a Porsche. Really KH, the customer needs to ask questions, make sure he or she has the right radio for the right job before the purchase is made. "Does it scan?". "Will it go back and listen on my main channel even though I'm sanning another one?" "Can it ever be upgraded to more than 4 channels?"

Come on, you wouldn't buy a car without asking lots of questions. It's not fair to blame any radio, Kenwood or Motorola for not doing something it was never ment to do.

Now if this was a case of a bad Salesperson (we know they are out there) giving bad information, that's a whole different story.

Oh, and by the way....best of luck with your customer.

Thanks charlie. All's not lost as there's only a select few who need the scan stuff, sorry guys you gotta tote the 1000s. The emergency button sending MDC (not sending in this case) I dunno what I'll do.

Before giving up, be sure that the scan list is populated (with the CPS, you have to populate a scan list before you can select its features) and that the desired priority configuration (none, one or two) is selected; the boxes remain grayed out until these steps have been taken.

have you already set up the scan list of channels. After that you should be able to do at least Priority # 1
If you push that panic emergency button i'm gonna break your fingers!

try before you pry! maybe?

Hey does anyone know much about user programmable scan? Example, can one program priority channels that way? These radios do NOT have displays.

Thanks for any help. :)

What radios do you own?: AstroSpectra XTS3K XTS5K APX7K

as far as I know, you need display for user programable scan lists (1250 + 1550).

Yes, you need the 16-channel HT750 to enable Priority 1 scanning, and the HT1250/1550 will allow both Priority 1 & 2 scanning. You also require the 16-channel HT750 (with firmware version 5.00.03 or greater) to enable MDC emergency. Or use the 1250/1550. Also, x1sspic was correct, you need a 1250/1550 to get the "scan list edit" function.

I suppose there's no flash firmware upgrade since it doesn't say FlashPort on it...jeez...

"Got good news and bad news, Alan." says KH to the customer.

"Ok, whats the good news?"

"Your 20 odd HT1000s will do everything you wanted."

"Great. The bad news?"

"Uh, about 5 of your 90 odd HT750s will do what you wanted."

There is no Motorola approved way to upgrade a 4-channel to a 16. There is a method detailed on Batlabs in the HT750 model specific section which might work. However, it involves a lot of hardware (two ribless cables with a "Y" cable & switch). Also, you need an equal amount of 16-channel radios to upgrade the 4-channel models. Or, several different versions of the upgrade software so you can re-use the 16-channel radios several times. Let us know if it works, should you try it.

There is another possiblility.....

An authorized dealer may be able to get them upgraded through the Rockford depot. This would be a better way to go because you would have legitamate radios with new model and serial number labels that could still be serviced by the depot if need be. If the codeplugs are hacked.....depot service would be difficult at best.

Still wish I could have observed how this situation unfolded. Why did the customer not purchase 16 channel units in the first place? Did a salesperson steer him in the wrong direction or did he only need four channels at the time and want to save some money.

This scenario is more common then you may think. A customer finds out that he could use another radio feature or more channels AFTER he or she has already invested a considerable amount of money in an existing system that has limitations.

I believe you are doing the right thing looking into all the possiblilities....
