I guess that if that is so, then don't read it.

The Dayton "I was there" thread is such - but I am not jumping in there complaining.

If you want to be a moderator, apply for the job. The current moderators have been reading it.

So, your opinion is noted. But that's all it is, an opinion.

Hey, didn't mean to ruin your fun. However, it doesn't change the fact this fellow asked a legit question, and politely at that. The thread was perfectly normal through the first 9 posts. It then went quickly downhill, due in most part to 2 or 3 individuals. Not so bad in itself, but I've noticed a lot more of these downhill threads lately. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. Luckily, the mods have been there for most of them.

Todd,

Even though I am now doing it as well.... you don't need to have the last word. Just let it go already. The dude was rude and we called him on it... IF it was really such a farce a mod would have hit the delete key long ago. There is nothing wrong with a little harmless fun once in a while. I don't know who you were refering to in your post but c'mon... let it go and don't be such a killjoy... Life is too short to be so serious all the time... if you can't enjoy life... no sense in living it.

That's it.. I'm done

Non-standard PL/DPL

Post by Cowthief »

Hello.

I have also enjoyed the thread, but, all kidding aside.
The reason for standard CTCSS and DCS is that, in the case of tones, harmonics play a big part.
If, for example, you were to pick 100.0Hz, the first upper harmonic is 200.0Hz, nothing there; the first lower harmonic is 50.0Hz, again, nothing.
Now, you would not want to use 100.0Hz on a European system, why? 50Hz is the power line frequency; the first upper harmonic is 100Hz.
Communications radios, by there very design, have a certain amount of harmonic twist and distortion.
This is also why DTMF, a.k.a. touch-tone, has the odd tones.
Something similar happens with Digital Channel Squelch.
Some codes have mathematical doubles, and even triples.
This is why you will see skips on the DCS/DPL sheets.

Thank You.

It probably wouldn't have gone downhill so fast if it weren't for the fact that it was a follow-on to the thread that led into this one.

Lot of stuff that doesn't add up from that thread to this one.

Matt

Seems like every time I log in, I'm in a funny mood - and I got a lot of movie pictures that I have saved. Sort of a stress reliever, I guess.

Probably after a few weeks I'll settle down to a half dozen or so.......

And here I thought you had some random image thing rigged.

YES, this message going downhill has everything to do with that previous message, and let's not forget who picked the original fight. Someone did pick a fight with a nasty comment or a know-it-all attitude, and it was just too easy to go along with it.

Listen to the Phil Hendrie show, it's on nationwide at night on a talk radio station, he [phil] goes on and takes calls on controversial topics and the guest he has is really himself. He changes his voice. One of his most common guests, is Margaret, where he changes his voice to an obnoxious woman. Callers who are too stupid to realize time after time that it is really phil call in and get all riled up because the guest [phil] is saying whacked out things. An example topic might be: "Why the military servicemen/women should not be paid for their service" And the guest will of course say something like they should not get paid and give bizarre reasons why, and PHil will interview the guest [himself] and be on the other side, and callers will call in screaming either playing along or really don't know it's him.

If you liked this thread, you will love phil hendrie it's on every weeknight I think

Sorry guys. I don't normally want to get the last word in, and in life, I'm definitely not the party pooper. You are correct, the poster did show a seriously immature & unknowledgeable side, but only after having his back up against the wall. That's all I wanted to point out...we were all newbies at one point or another.

Feel free to post after this, as I do not want to appear to be wanting the last word at all. I guess being in this thread 3 times I'm as guilty as the next person at this point.

Humbly yours,

Todd

Great. When you're on the phone with them, ask them if they know how to get in touch with the GLG20 who is working as a Klingon interpreter in Washington State. I seem to have lost his business card when my dog farted and my linear amp blew up my maxtrac.

Another one to add to the list.

Nice thread, quite enjoyable for a while.
Just a quick observation about the quote above for those that are not into harmonics too deep (no offense intended to you Cowthief, I am sure you just didn't pay attention to it), there is no such a thing as lower harmonic. The harmonics are only integers of the base frequency. However in this case (PLs) , the 50Hz it matters as it may interfere with 100Hz (but it doesn't work the other way around, 100 Hz will not interfere with 50Hz tone).

The GLG20 you refer to works in the steam tunnels and basement of the pentagon... the one in Washington State speaks Romulan...
Bob wrote:I seem to have lost his business card when my dog farted and my linear amp blew up my maxtrac.
First... you don't have a dog... You have Cats (Ugh!!)... but only by default  I think it was reversed with the linear was blown up by a 40 watt stick shoved into a 4 watt hole... or something to that effect. At least the electromagnetic pulse wasn't large enough to shut down Cowthief's insecurity system..... Too bad...

Jack, if you hurt your feelers, you need to pull away from the desk to avoid smacking your knuckles.

I know he wasn't doing anything with me. My girlfriend talks with his wife, so neither of us can get away with anything. Besides, I think James goes for uniforms... he blew a kiss to a Pennsylvania State Trooper on the way home.

I think Alex is going to keep this thread running just for the comedy value. And if he does lock it, I'll start another one just for him about steamrolling ducks.

Yeah... Love them PA Troopers... it more of an electronic HONK than a kiss though.... Although it was quite funny watching you almost pass out from laughing......

(Ahem) I prefer "poop-stirrer" myself.......although some misguided souls mispronounce it as "poopster".

"insane chatter" - the enlightenment of the unwashed has always had it's detractors. Hmmmmm - like "Nattering nabobs of negativism" seems to be a 'publican quote from some convict if I remember right.

And I remember seeing you, HD, with stick in hand on your way to the pot a couple of times!

Ah, cyberspace - the last frontier!
