Have a CDM1250 and want to remote mount this sucker in my car. I noticed /\/\otorola has a kit for doing this. After looking at FleaBay for one, I noticed it looks like nothing but a ethernet connection on the radio and faceplate. Has anyone made one, or is there something special that would require me to purchase one from /\/\ rather than making it myself and saving a big chunk-of-change?
Also, how does one get the radio's face off the radio to use the remote mount kit?
Here is a photo of what I am talking about on FleaBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... tegory=296
Thanks all
CDM1250 Remote Mount Kit, can I make one?

Remote mount kits....
The remote mount kit Motorola part numbers are:
CDM750: RLN4801 List Price 93.50
CDM1250/1550: RLN4802 List Price 93.50
In addition you will need the Remote mount cable:
3 meter RKN4077 List Price 8.25
5 meter RKN4078 List Price 10.50
7 meter RKN4079 List Price 13.00
You can probobly find a dealer that will sell you the kit for less than list.
It seems to me that it would be more of a pain in the a$$ to try and build one than to just go ahead and buy one at these prices.

IIRC, there is a little plastic tool that comes with the kit - and that allows you to safely depress the plastic on the top and bottom of the radio where the control head meets the body. You could accomplish the same thing with a dull razor blade, or small screw driver if you don't give a squat about damaging the case...
Regardless - I think if you remove the control head from the radio you would see how to easy it is to interface - if I had photos or something like that - I would post them, but sadly, I don't. I think the kit also requires 10 wires, so you'd have to use different cabling for the project... I think the connectors are 10 pin RJ connecters as well...
If you do - take some photos and post them... others wouldn't mind access to the info.

If you mean those things that look like a miniature ice scraper with a curved blade, you can order them seperately, they're a couple of bucks.. I'll have to look tomorrow and find the part number.. they're a nice thing to have around. Or is there another tool that fits the little tabs on the side?
I've put a remote kit on a CDM, but I can't remember much about it.. I think it just interfaced those flex cable connections to RJ jacks.. mind you, the guy that attempted it before they gave it to me to do hooked it up wrong and blew something out.. so follow instructions carefully..
One big advantage of buying the kit over building your own is getting the housings..

Thanks for the quick replys guys I will take the head off - now that I have a clue on how to do this (thanks Alex). I hope I can do this without scratching or gouging up the CDM1250.
I would like to remote mount this radio cheaply, but if it looks like crap missing the cover for the head unit, i just might just purchse one. I'm so broke right now, I have the feeling I will be rigging something up. If I do, I will take some photos and keep notes if necessary for others to see.
Thanks again, you guys are great

Took me about 2 minutes to pry off the head unit with my finger nails - no tool needed! or damage to the case
It's just as Jackhacket says.
I see no problem with rigging something up for cableing for this, but a cover for the back of the remote head might be a different story. I'm going to put the RF deck in the trunk, so it doesn't matter if the cover is missing there.
I got more time than money right now, so this will be my project for the weekend

Yeah, they're not hard to get off.. a bit too easy actually, have had a number of them knocked off by customers..
If you're gonna mount the RF deck in the trunk, you're going to want to put it in a good dry spot, without the head that thing is pretty much wide open to the elements..
Also, on the head, if you're going to use the internal speaker, the sound will lose quite a bit of volume if the back of the head is left open, you need it to form an enclosure for the speaker..
