How to identify MX radios with Securenet

Post by cryptoman »

Is there any way to tell if a MX HT is Securenet capable?
Are there specific models that are and others that are not?
If so, which ones are?

I have seen some MX radios with a switch that selects
( ) and (\). Does this mean that it is Securenet capable,
or could this have other meanings such as PL decode on/off?

Are there any web sites with info on the MX radios? I
didn't find much on Batlabs, as these radios are older
and not easy to program like the current radios are.

Any information is appreciated!

MX Radios

Post by Dave Mac »

I believe the DES capable MX's were about 3/4 of an inch or more longer than the standard radios. And there would be a switch but I don't recall what is was.

What radios do you own?: Progreso soup can with CRT

MX encryption...

Look inside the radio. The encryption module is at the bottom of the case, below the PROM module if it's an MX-S. The encryption
module is as wide as the case with a shiny metal cover. It connects to a multipin plug underneath.

There may be model code information over on Batlabs which would be of help to you in identifying these kinds of radios. It's been a long time since I looked there, having given up chasing old MXs several years ago.

As far as the mode switch goes, it can be OFF/PL or OFF/ENCRYPT/PL. I don't remember if I've ever seen one which is OFF/ENCRYPT but with Motorola anything's possible, I suppose.
