It is a very convenient way to send money. Free for the sender, could be free for the receiver, but usually ends up costing a few percent of the amount being sent. I use it on eBay all the time, especially when paying by credit card, as it offers a bit more protection and security should something go wrong with the deal. (I'm having such a problem right now. Sent money via PayPal but have not yet seen the item; my e-mails are not being answered nor are my phone calls. Luckily the seller is relatively close to me so I could drive there if things get desperate.)
There are other on-line payment facilities, but for some reason PayPal seems to get the lion's share. It's also now owned by eBay and is pushed big-time by them.

I would gladley send a check, or cash for the fund.
I have no interest in "Pay Pal", I am not even sure why I would ever want it.
Bernie,
I sent a postal money order for my "share" of the bill. PM Jon on where to send it.
PS - had a very bad experience with paypal. Would never use it again. When buying anything from eBAY or here on the labs, it's a PMO sent via traceable US Mail.

Alex -
I know you are looking for a new machine or got one, I have a couple of older Dell 6450's quad processor racks that would be available if you want to forgo the shipping. I got them for system upgrades at work and I they had 4 Pent Pro 500mhz or 750mhz (Not sure) with raid array, dual nic's etc. I have not had any time to mess with them, but they working when pulled and were bad assed machines in the day. We were running them as image servers and server 10 of millions of site images a day on RH7 as I last recall. We went to extenal caching and did some house cleaning.
Just tossing it out. I'm in Southern CA, and they are about 60 lbs 6U with pull out tracks for easy racking.

Ok - I have gone back through this thread and looked to see as best I can and given people the tag's that have donated (to the best of my ability to determine they have done so.)
If your still without a supporter tag, post your paypal reciept text in this thread, and i'll update it in the next couple of days.

I sent mine in so long ago I can no longer find anything on it.
Very strange, on John board this was done in nearly an instant.

Alex,
If it means anything, Cowthief and I compared paypal receipts at one point, so I know he has donated to the batboard fund.
On a different note...
Jon: What happened to batboard today? Is it time to dig into the $3K for a new server or new hosting?

There are several freeware network monitoring tools you can use to monitor things like this. "Big Brother"
http://www.bb4.org/ is one of them.
You might want to consider setting up monitoring.

Says right on the main page:
Batwing Laboratories relies the financial support of a core group of individuals. If you would like to lend a hand in paying the ISP bills, please click the button below to make a donation through PayPal. Every little bit helps, and is greatly appreciated. Thanks. [paypal button here]
Note: This does not goto the batboard server fund!
Ive asked people to NOT email me at this point, just to post in this thread. If you post up your reciept, I'll add it, providing it goes to Jon.
I have no way of tracking what goes to Bat, or how he wants to recognise people for their financial support.

Only if you donate to Jon's fund do I give you the board supporter tag. I have no control/information/etc from Bat about what happens with the money from his link. IT's my oppinion that since it goes to him, it's up to him to figure out what he wants to do with it, to what extent, and what recognition he wants to offer.
I help Jon out with the board supporter stuff.

As a reminder...
batlabs.com and batboard.batlabs.com are two different servers with two different owners. We here at the board have no control over the content at batlabs.com, and he has no control over here.

Pj wrote:he has no control over here.
That's not true. It is his domain, his concept, etc, so it is by no means mine. I just keep the ship on course board wise, and have nothing to do with the content on the main site.

Technically they are NOT seperate entities as far as the entire site and forums are concerned. They are just hosted on 2 different servers, well more for the main site with the mirrors but that's another story entirely.
The BatBoard is a part of the main Batlabs entity. Where people get confused is the "management structure" of the site. Alex, Wavetar and Myself are administrators of the Forums, but have no control over the "main site" (as it's called), that is a higher level of management than what we are. Make sense?

Posted: Fri Sep 16, 2005 1:32 pm

To the main site fund which is directly controlled and administrated by Batwing.

They are - and kinda aren't.
Bat owns the *.batlabs.com domain. He started the board - and ownes it in the sense that it's his idea, and his domain.
The board has kinda had an interesting history - before it was as you see it today, it was a cgi script on Bat's system. I have an archive of it somewhere. IT was then built in to the phpbb style system. I don't know if Jon always hosted that - I think he did, but i'm not sure. Either way, Jon provides the underlying technical stuff to make the board work (and I support that). He doesn't do any administration of the board unless there's something he needs to do in a system admin capacity. I pretty much run the board - Bat does pop on here occassionally, or possibly often - but doesn't really post or really do much by the way of administration. I have done that since April 23, 2002 (still hve the PM). I do go to bat sometimes about stuff going on here when i think it's nesecary for him to be aware of it.
So the batboard supporter tag (and you'll notice it says Batboard and NOT batlabs) is to keep the site up and running, hosted, etc.
The board admins/moderators do not have control over the content of the main site, and don't support it (in the technical/updating sense, we of course, support it in spirit.)
With that being said, the link on the first page you get to when you go to batboard.batlabs.com has Bat's paypal button. You'll notice under it says that the money doesn't go to the support of the batboard. Since it was there before I was and it was put there by bat, I'm reluctant to remove or change that.

You can go back quite some time in paypal history and at least make a good effort to cut/paste the stuff.
Also, there was a time when spreadsheets were being given to me with emails of who doanted, and i asked several times for people to let me know if they did, how much, and what email so I could cross reference them. Not many people stepped forward in that respect.
Oh well.
Can't make everyone happy.

You have an RSS warning - so you won't get the board supporter tag until that gets removed. Read up on the FAQ if you'd like more information about the warning, and how long it stays with you.
