HT1000 Talk Permit Tone on Conventional, IT CAN BE DONE!

There are, but not without transmitting annoyances over the air. MDC, G-Star and DTMF all transmit something over the air. Using this talk permit tone thingie isn't transmitting anything over the air to annoy users. Well, it is, but it's so fast unless you're running CSQ simplex, nobody is going to hear it.

It sure would be nice if Motorola radios supported what Ericsson ones do. They have a field in each personality for "Clear to talk tone" or something like that. Even on conventional, it will make a quick beep when you key up.

There really should be something. I understand the idea of a time out timer, but that is only going to stop you from transmitting for more than a minute or whatever. It does nothing to tell you that you have transmitted. At least with this talk permit tone "hack" on the HT1000, you know you've keyed up. All whackerness aside, the talk permit tone is very recognizable and won't be mistaken for anything else.

So the DTMF tones sent are so fast that not even a phone patch would pick them up? Our fire dept. STILL answers emergency calls with a phone patch. Just wondering if it would cause any problems on a system with a phone patch.

So are there any mobiles that will do it? I'm thinking a Maxtrac or GM300 could, but i'd have to look in the RSS to be sure. If my Spectras will that would be sweet.

No, No and no. At least, not that I've ever seen, and I've tried everything.

No. Right now, this looks to be an HT1000-only trick.. which makes sense when you think about it, since the HT1000 uses its own RSS package and is pretty fundamentally different firmware-wise from its Jedi brothers.

And before someone asks, yes I know that the Visar and JT1000 program with the same software. Do either of them do any kind of ANI signalling? Okay then.

Personally, I'd like to see selectable sidetone tones made available in the new Astro25 line. Like, you could have long/short single-tone, the trunking go-ahead tone, or maybe even a short MODAT or DTMF burst available in a drop-down menu. The trunking go-ahead tone is much easier on the ears than a 500ms. "BEEP", imho.

I don't know anything about JT1000s, but my Visars have all of the DTMF/MDC1200 junk that HT1000s do, and this trick works on them.

After quickly growing tired of the triple beep, I made it into just a single beep (much nicer), and eventually just lost interest and turned it all off. If I had a saber I could do it the right way with the clear tx beep.

It's OK to be a geek, though. That trunking beep *is* l33t.

Even on 800 systems, depending on the specific radio, you can hear a lot of them do it still over the air.

I do have a question about this pertaining to ASTRO... Our PD Dispatch has the tone in the backround, and they are using P25 VHF.... On a p25 repeater, an sometimes in analog. Even in analog, you can barely hear it.

How is it done?

Got my HT1000 DN to do it. One other thing, is that you need to enable PTT-ID under the actual channel setup to do it.

I use it as a "marker" for certain channels in my HT1000.

I have the first six channels for regular TX/RX use, then the next one can be set to TX on MURS with the fake talk permit tone which lets me know it is the first of the next set of RX channels.

I also have it set for my local simplex frequencies, as they will not be likely to care about hearing such a short DTMF burst.

For those of you who don't want the DTMF to transmit over the air;

As I was programming my HT1000's, I set the Pretime to 25mS. The only time you should hear the DTMF over the air is when you're on C.S.Q. Simplex.

No, as per all the previous posts. No one's been able to do this particular trick on anything other than the HT/JT1000s and Visars.

Not to mention you cannot program an MT 2000 with MCS 2000 software. There was never a Windows software package for the MT 2000, just later model MTS 2000's and the MCS 2000.
