I received 490 flashes to make some radios with R08.01.03 work properly last week. The flash that was sent to me was R09.00.00. It sounds like yours is later.

Getting mighty generous with thier flashes, aren't they? I called the other day about a flash upgrade to solve the now infamous XTS3K LCD upgrade problem, and they guy said: "How many do you want? If you're going to be doing more than just this one, go ahead and order however many you think you'll need. No charge." Just damn. I ordered 5. Maybe they'll send 500.

I was under the impression that you had to give them the serial numbers of all the radios to be flashed. Is the flash upgrade not serial number dependent?

by 4n6inv
Evidently not. I had to provide ONE legit serial # that matched the flashcode for a specific model. You give them the host / DSP version, and the flash will upgrade that version forward. So, best bet is to give them as low a host / DSP as possible. All of the flashes will match the radio that you give them. If word gets out; I bet that they'll tighten things up...

So does the flash upgrade check to see if it is the same flash that's in the radio? I suppose it does as you could order what ever options you wanted and only pay for the host/dsp uplift.

I guess this would be good news for anyone with a 123ABC radio as long as they have a legit radio with the same flash.

I have a 123ABC radio now that has version 6 host/dsp and would like to uplift it to version 9. Don't really need version 9, but want to have QCII features enabled on it.

A reflash doesnt care about the flash code. It will remain the same
Anything else is an upgrade and will cost.

I'm not 100% positive, but he did ask whether all of the models were the same. When I told him that I had M-2's and 3's; he told me that I would have to order a new flash for the different models when I did the LCD upgrade.

But, you're correct: You won't get anything else that your radio didn't already have. That was my understanding from talking to them. Hince them wanting the model # and flash code...

Firmware upgrades, which is what we are talking about, arent model dependent as long as its for the same line of radios, ie.. Astro 25. The firmware CD that ships with the dongle contains firmware for all models, portable and mobile. Even the infamous SSE5000.

it sort of depends. If I order flash upgrades they seem to be per model however when i order a FSB upgrade they dont care

Right, an actual Flashcode upgrade order, and products received is different than a firmware upgrade. They do need the serial number for EVERY radio involved and you only get the exact amount of flashes you pay for.

Someone asked if it complains if you try to flash upgrade to the same software level. Yesterday I got interupted with a walk up repair add forgot that I had just flashed the radio. When I started the upgrade it looked kike it was working but gave me a warning and asked if I wanted to continue.

A couple of hundred radios flashed, 260 more to go. How could Motorola not test PL decode in R08.00.03?

Ouch!! 260 more to go! That's smarts.

Just did a Firrmware 9.00 update to an XTS2500 Model II after doing the CPS update. Analog Caller ID works as advertised. Yeah! :D

I have 128 XTS5000 for PD and 287 XTS5000 for Fire to do. We also have around 40 XTL5000 mobiles. All shipped with R08.00.03 to a city that uses PL.

I only have to do the portables since I am the portable tech.

In case anyone wonders about the odd numbers. thats what you get when tou are trying to fill up a grant.

I hope you have the USB cable
on the otherhand,
go out everynight, get hammered,go to work every morning and
use the serial cable.
you can sleep all day, and your brain never has to switch on.

All done and no bricks! Gotta love the USB cable. On a virgin radio the actual flash took 2min33sec. Total with unpacking and repacking about 3 min each.

Now if Fire would stop adding channels I can start programming. They are up to 14 zones with voice on the two city zones.

Meh...

The thing that "gets" me about Astro25 CPS (CPS R9 to be specific) is that you have to edit the frequency in the ZONE field, and not the actual personality field. I was programming an XTS2500 for a customer and was confused as hell for a few minutes.

Thanks, Bruce. That does not effect me. The Fire radios are VHF and all of the channels are analog, They have astro to qualify for grant funding but even that is unused.

Fire in Southern California has a set of frequencies called TMAC. This has all possible frequencies for strike team use. Our freqs are in that plan but we are adding dedicated city zones after the regional plan since you need to cary a book to find anything.

The freq in the zone is a first time killer since you can not see them unless you scroll the zone. It took me a while to find them also.

I had to renew my subscription today for Astro25 Portable CPS. Problem is, when I originally purchased the CPS, I bought the combo (Mobile and Portable). I couldn't justify the cost of buying the combo again, so I only got the portable version. The latest I have for the mobile is version 8.xx so when I get the disk from Motorola is there going to be problems? Should I just remove the mobile version? I will not be using it any longer. I've heard of problems with updating one and not the other - Is that really a problem?

edit: Also, is there a reason that it is not showing up under my sunscriptions in MOL? I remember the last time I had it, I had to call them and have them add it to my MOL. Every so often, they would take it away and I'd have to call back...

This I got from the Readme file:

===============================================
ASTRO 25 Portable CPS R09.01.02
===============================================
IMPORTANT!!
- It is necessary to update both Mobile and Portable CPS to R09.00.00 OR R09.01.00 if an earlier version of either CPS (R08.00.00 or earlier) is on the system. Failure to update both applications will break the communication of the earlier version CPS.

- Tuner R05.02.00 MUST get installed if installing CPS versions R09.00.00 OR R09.01.00. Earlier versions of the tuner are NOT compatible with earlier version of the CPS.

Will it still get problem if I removed the earlier ver., such as R08.00, before I install the R09.01.02? :o :o

I just renewed my script on 27MAY2007 and they sent me 9.00.00. Funny how they do some things.
