HMN3596A or AARMN4025B for MCS2000?

I picked up two very clean MCS2000 Model I radios on eBay, and they came with different microphones. Is there a difference in audio characteristics for these mics? Also, I'm curious as to the significance of the leading AA in the model number?
Thanks,

I believe these mikes are for the CDM series of radios. While people do use them in the Maxtrax, GTX, & MCS series of radios, the plugs aren't exactly the same, & damage can be caused to the mike receptacle in the radio. Something about 8 pins vs 10 pins. There are articles I've read on this subject, but I don't remember where. I just found a AARMN4025B mike & it has 10 pins, but I also have a correct MCS mike, & it has 8 pins. Hopefully someone with more info will chime in. I have found out that pins 1, & 10 on the 10 pin mike is for generating touch tones on the CDM radio. The 8 pin mikes generate tones in the mike, but the 2 outer pins on the 10 pin mikes are for the CDM radios to generate the tones in the radio, not the mike. So the question is, will using a 10 pin mike in an 8 pin radio cause damage? GARY N4KVE

I have a HMN3596A mic and it has 8 pins. It fits my MCS2000 just fine, but I do not believe it is the correct mic for that radio.
I think the correct on is HMN4069B.

Yes, the HMN4069B mike is the correct one for the MCS2000 radio, however, all Maxtrac/Radius 8 pin mikes will work fine. You just want to stay away from the 10 pin mikes the CDM series uses. GARY N4KVE
