XPR7550 and 3500 programming

Ok, I have the XPR7550 and the XPR3500 in my hot little hands and I can't program them. The 3500 requires a different cable, so I"m waiting for my vendor to get that out to me.

The 7550 uses what appears to be the same cable as the 6550, however my computer isn't recognizing it.

I have CPS 7.6 (build 384). From what I can see in MOL that's the most recent version.

Any ideas?

The XPR 7350 XPR 7550 uses the PMKN4012B cable. From postings here, I understand that the "A" version cable will not work.

Ah ha! We bought a whole extra set of cables early this year and that had the "B" model.

The one I was using for the 6550s we have was purchased in 2008.

Once I plugged that "B" cable in it read and programmed no problem. Thank you, RFguy, for the suggestion!

It would be interesting to disect an "A" version and a "B" version to see what the difference is. I "assumed" there were no active devices in them.

The 'ground' is the only difference... The 'A' version took the ground from the 'target circle' above the main pins. The 'B' version takes the ground from an actual pin- as the new 4000(UK)/7550(US) series has no 'target'. I have been told it IS possible to open the connector up in the 'A' programming cable and simply change the ground wire location. I have'nt tried this yet... its on the list.

I just converted an "A" version cable over. Open the connector up and solder the yellow wire to the brown wire which is ground, pin 6 of the XPR7550. You can still read the older TRBO portables with it after you make the change.

I take it you took the single cable from the 'target' section? The cable is black here in the UK, not yellow... Just wanted to confirm before I take the soldering iron to the cable :)

Yes, I moved the single wire that was by itself down to pin 6.

Have you tried the modified cable on an APX?

No I haven't, I'll try it the next time I get my hands on one.
