maratrac question

Post by moustache »

I was wondering if a maratrac with a clamshall head modified to work with a pac rt, would work the same with the advanced head or would something have to be changed? I was told if a clamshell / transmitter had the modification for the pac rt, it would have to always be used with the pac.

Any info is greatly appreciated...

What mods? The model does not lend itself to easily interfacing with external devices like a pac-rt. Perhaps whomever told you this was referring to a specific set of radios with a specific set of modifications for this one application. ie - drill a hole in the side, run a cable in, solder it to the appropriate points, terminate the other end of the cable in the pac-rt. There are plenty of people who can get the job done. You just might not like the implementation, and you might not be able to back out easily.

Hi, the modification to the radio is the same one that is suggested on the board concerning the jumper wire and the pac using the transmit line to the led as a connection point. The post was under the miodel specific info. Just wondering since it worked with te clam shell head if a different cabl;e with the a7 head would be the same.

I have only seen one basic PAC-RT adapter cable for the Maratrac. It doesnt matter which head is used because only the audio, PPT and carrier detect circuits are tapped into. Once the Maratrac has been modified for the pac-rt, it wont work properly with replacing the jumper or whatever else is needed. I did a Pac-Rt conversion on my Maratrac about 15 years ago when I had them in my pickup, (I went to a lowband SyntorX9000- Pac-RT and Siren options now). Yes, I know the Pac-rt is not narrowbandable, but I dont care, It's on an Itinerent freq.

You would have to look at the schematics to determine that.

Sorry, this in not very helpful because all my PAC-PL and PAC-RT manuals are in storage over 1000 miles away from home. All I have is the part number for the MaraTrac cable:
NKN6214BSP09 - Interface Cable (MaraTrac)

It does not say which head it is for.

You probably want to configure the radio for a clamshell head before interfacing anything to it. Less things to go wrong or change without you knowing it, like the volume and mode. I've seen Pyramid vehicular repeaters interfaced to these radios but it involved drilling a hole in the side of the case to bring an 8-conductor cable in to attach to the rear of the control head connector, as well as a few other places. I've also seen a tone remote control unit interfaced to a MaraTrac to turn it into a temporary remote base.
