CDM1550 Remote Head question

Our fire dept. just acquired a new Ford Explorer for a new command vehicle. We are deciding on which radios to put in it, we all agreed we want to put in CDM1550's, I know, I know, there are people that hate em, but we already use them and they work fine. My question is, if I wanted to use the remote head feature, would there be anyway to use "2" heads so to speak, like have the radio up front on the main console. And have one in the rear with the command center. Or is this not possible?

Thanks,
Mike

No you can't have two control heads on the cdm but, you can wire up through the acc plug a remote mic and speaker. There are limitations with respect to changing channels the remote mic would use what ever the control head is on. Rumor has it there is a dual control head being worked on. I have set up the remote mic and speaker for many of are customers
with much success.

I think it was Quickmount that was working a dual head system and possibly motorola. The CDM1550 is a great radio, I'm running a CDM1250 and it works great, I haven't read hardly any bad things about them.

Check with Quickmount and see if they plan on a unit and then let us know.

If you run a remote control head CDM radio, you could power down the radio, change the connector/cable from the front control head at the radio chassis to the cable/connector for a rear head, and power the radio back on.

Some "command", Bat Chief, vehicles have a second radio in back completly independent of the front radio. Usally the more option radio, like the CDM1550, is in back.
Some Command veh's have a repeater in them too, a R1225, with a local mic and speaker allowing instant "break in" comms from the incident Commander.

I remeber reading at one point that they had been unsuccessful in actually building the quickmount kit, and that they were not getting the support that they wanted/needed from Motorola, so it's been taken out of development.

Do a search for quickmount on the board, and see what you come up with.

That was the last rumor I heard about it, nothing can beat calling and confirming yourself though.

I forgot all about the extra mic & speaker! In fact, that is the setup we have on the now retired command vehicle with our gm300's. There will be no repeaters in the vehicle, we run a simple conventional repeater system with only 2 voters, but that's a good thought.

Thanks,
Mike

The "A" versions were replaced by "B" versions about 18 months ago.
