XTL2500 800 MHz vs 900 MHz - same hardware?

Is a 900 MHz XTL2500 the same as a 800 MHz XTL2500 with the band limits amended in firmware. Or is there a hardware difference between the radios?

An 800 MHz XTL2500 already covers down to 700 MHz so maybe its easy to mod up to 927 MHz?
