Remote Mic override the volume

My XTS5000 is powering up with the RSM set to override the radio.
However, it's coming on with VERY low volume. In fact it takes 6-8 presses of the soft buttons on the face of the RSM to get to an audible level.
I intentionally set the RSM to have priority over the radio's knob. But I must have changed another parameter recently because it's no longer functioning the way it had been. I previously had no problem hearing traffic, and now it's nearly silent.
I changed something in my programming, and now I can't get back to the working version.
What is the correct settings to have the RSM always connected, and as soon as I power up the radio I have a moderate volume level?
