Hello All,

I am In the Market for a VHF Ex600. I just want some opinions on the EX600. Is it a radio of choice for EMS and if not what is. How is Audio on EX600. How is Receive on EX600?

The EX600 is a very capable radio for EMS work, you can setup almost any type of calling ID necessary to support your group. Receive and receive audio are comparable to other radio's in this price range. You may consider the full size radio, the HT1250. Battery life is longer and you have more battery, etc. options. If you plan on programming the EX600 yourself, the programming cable will cost your double what the 1250's cable will run. They are not the same accessory connector, the 600's is shorter.

Is the EX-series FM approved (intrisically safe)?

Would that be a consideration for EMS work?

The batteries are the part that require intrinsically safe, I believe with the correct batteries it is. The HT750/1250/1550 has batteries that are intrinsically safe, I use HNN9010's.

We have some HT750's here that are usinf the IS batteries.
I seem to recall guys asking for the smaller radio (EX) and being told that
it wasn't available in an IS version - that's why I asked.

I am a volunteer EMT and recently got an Ex600. There is mention if an intrinsically safe battery...but I don't see why as an EMT/non ff someone would be in an explosive environment.

Otherwise, I've had a great experience with battery life, features, and durability. I had an ht1250 for my last radio, audio is as good as that. (Not quite as good as Jedi series)

The EX 600 IS a capable radio, however, I would not recommend this radio for EMS use. While it is versitile, I believe any Jedi would fill that role just as well, if not better. The Jedi is a prooven radio, just as a Saber.

If the size is what you are after, then I would suggest a VISAR. If channel capacity is what you are after, then a Jedi would do well for you.
If you really want both and really don't care who makes it, then a Vertex VX800 would fit the bill quite nicely. That's just my $0.02 worth.
