hey all,

ok, heres the deal! i am interested in learning how to program my own radios since i am accumulating quite a selection! what kinds of equipment am i gonna need? i know im gonna need a programming cable, RIB, and RSS. I KNOW IM GONNA HAVE TO BUY THE RSS FROM MOTOROLA! guestion is, about how much does it cost? do i have to have different cables for different radios?(i assume i do) what out of the equipment is interchangable? i quess basically what im asking is can i use one setup for all my radios or what! i also assume i have to buy separate RSS for each radio. am i correct in that assumption? by the way all the radios i will be programming will be vhf! ht1000, sp50, mt2000, etc. thanks ahead of time for the replys! any information would be much appreciated!!!

For the mentioned radios the same RIB will cover all. (2) RIB to Radio cables- the HT1000
and MT2000 use the same. The big investment will be the RSS, all (3) mentioned radios need their own versions at about $330. a pop.

Hi:

If you are planning to program Motorola Radios, you
should consider getting the following.

1. A good stable 386-486-25 Series Computer. Depending
on how savvy you are, you may be able / need to use a
Pentium, but would only recommend one of those if you
are planning on programming the CDm/Pro Series, or other
Windows Based Radio programs.

About 95% of all older Motorola Radios were designed
around RSS with using DOS 6.22

1b. The use of DOS 6.22 is highly recommended.

2. The use of a Factory Rib Box is also recommended, but
some clones are probably OK, however, NOT all clones are
the same, and some can not program x9000 series radios.

3. The use of External Power Support for the Rib and Battery
is also highly recommended.

4. The use of Factory Cables, or VERY WELL made clone cables
are OK, However, stay AWAY from ANY style clone cable that
you must [ Hold On to the Program Contacts ] in order to
program the radio.

One slip from a cable like that, or a glich in computer during the
write process, could turn your radio into a paper weight.

Also, the Factory RSS is highly receommended.
