how easy are these to convert to a astro?

and are hey on a fixed freq? or can they be on any VHF? would be sweet to get a Astro Convertacom and swap it

The convertacom has no set freq. that it will work on. It can work on anything that the saber can do. If you are interested in a Astro Saber MVA, PM me.

Dont know but that guy bought that lot of 'portable' bases DIRT cheap from surplussolutions....weren't they part of a thread here.... :o

I dont know the quality...the pics that SS had looked ALOT worse than these..maybe he cleaned them up...

The unit shown in the auction and photo is a "kluge" compared to others which have recently been shown on eBay. This one is nothing but ocmponents scrunched into a suitcase. The "nice" ones have the SVA mounted vertically in a deep case with a nicely finished and cut out faceplate with the front half inch or so of the SVA poking through the plate.

And yes, the only thing that makes this unit frequency or band dependent in any way is the amplifier; an SVA does nothing to a Saber's receive or transmit frequencies.

I personally skip auction where there are more lines of disclaimers and term than there are descriptions of the item being sold.

Any amplifier on the proper frequency band will work on Astro. The only difference, as far as the amplifier is concerned, is the modulation (deviation) and it doesn't care.
