Value of radios???

hi all,

just wondering if there was a site that gives values of radios? i guess the closest comparable thing would be Kelly Blue Book! a place that takes into consideration cosmetics, type, options installed, and other things! if theres not there should be!!! i usually go by average prices on ebay and usually go a little cheaper! thanks ahead of time

I thought of making something like that a while ago... last summer, I think.

It came down to this little point: how much something costs depends on the particular seller and the particular buyer.

For example, a certain famous Motorola radio dealer [I won't name names] who publishes mile long text files of his stock is known for selling radios for relatively high prices, compared to what I think they are worth. Yet this person still sells radios, and has been doing so for years. So it seems that there must be buyers willing to pay the prices.

I couldn't seem to set a specific price for a particular series of radio. There are different splits of radios. For example, I would pay a heck of a lot less for a T-band UHF radio then I would for a low-split UHF model that covers the 70cm ham band. On the other hand, a taxi company that is on T-band would be the reverse.

Then there is the number of modes a radio has. And then take in account if it was hacked or not.

In sum, it is a big project to bite off. I'd still like to see something like it, and would be glad to help. I just got puzzled and confused on how to do it.

Lets take a look at the MAXTRAC
You talk about an over priced unit.

But it is what the market will "BARE"

I feel nake when people pay so much
money for this radio.

Any good "HAM" will tell or show you
radios for a lot less money and it does
many things more.

Maxtrac overpriced ? Prices on EBay at least are down quite a bit on these over the last few years. Bought a few Hi Power VHF 16 ch. Maxtrac's in the $150. range. A bargain in my book.
