IRLP boards & Motorola equipment

I have never taken a close look at an IRLP board, but what I would like to do is set-up a simplex node using existing mobiles (gm 300) with the board. I haven't been able to find any documentation on using it with motorola. I'd also like the option to link it up to a repeater on an as-needed basis (whether it be simply plugging it into another radio or something more elaborate) Has any already done this and have a clear way to do it and what cables are needed? Thanks

Both echoLink And IRLP have good sites
and the info is there to use them on a radio.

EchoLink uses the normal Windows Program.

IRLP uses Linus RedHat.

Hi:
I am using A pair of Maxtracs (for Duplex) to link my IRLP node to the Downtown 900 MHz repeater. Just need to cut the power back some and run a fan on the Transmitter radio. The 16 pin connector will give all the signals you need for the IRLP board.
Good luck

Thanks for that info walt. I think I've heard someone talk about that 900 system you have over there over IRLP before. Perhaps it was you.

I'm trying to source the cables though. I take it these aren't included with the board. I have been unable to find these either for sale or even a schematic or anything at all!

Like I said, I have been unable to find the information anywhere. The most I got out of IRLP.NET was: "Motorola GM300 M120 series synthesized radios are plug and play. "

Great. But can you be more specific! How is anyone supposed to really determine the cost of the project? Or was I just supposed to order the board and then find out after that I need a computer running Linux and that the cables cost more than the board?

The cables should be easy to make. You will need to have mini-stereo plugs to go to the sound card and then a 9pin D connector for PTT, COS and stuff. One way to connect to the 16pin header connector is to use the wire-wrap tool that radio shack has. The wire is a bit thin (30ga) but will work fine. The other cheap method is to cut down a floppy or harddrive cable to 16 positions and splay the wires to what you need. The right way is to get a 16 pin connector kit from Mot or ebay and wire it all up clean with heat shrink and all. You are looking at about $10 - $30 depending on what parts you have on hand.

If you are using a 5 pin radio look on batlabs for info on how to make a maxtrac repeater and wire the COS to pin 8 on the RJ45 mic connector and hack up a ethernet cable. Even with the 16 pin radio I would go that way. just wire wrap the COS pin on the 16 pin connector and tack it to an unused pin on the RJ45.

Hi Rapidcharger..
I added a schematic of how I wired my IRLP with two Maxtracs. You can use one if you set the jumper on the IRLP borad.
Check it out on my web page below.
