I just purchased a Pro 96 from a local radio shack and they asked if i would like free scanner programming so i said what the heck i can always erase the channels if there old but the are great. What is the software that the use because it is pretty cool. First a map of the United States of America Pops up then a list of the towns in the state you choose and then it programs the radio. I would like to get a copy of this software.

That's kinda interesting, if I had a scanner that would be great (that's another issue). Did you ask the Rat Shack guys where you can get the software?

I'm pretty sure it's part of the "police call" cd that they sell.

The two programs that I use for the 96
are: Win96 and Trunkstar. They are both very similar.
You need something that will program multiple
base freqs because you can only program simple
setups from the keypad. I understand that this is not exactly
what you were asking, but just kinda/ sorta on topic.

Jap Shack sells the software. I saw it on the shelf the other day with the speaker wire, wire ties, heat shrink kind of things. Don't know what it costs because I don't have one of the new scanners yet. I am sure that there are other programs floating around that will program it too.

Radio shack does sell scanner programming software on cd rom, but it wont program the pro 96 scanner. Be careful not to get the wrong programming cable also. The pro 96 scanner also takes a special program cable. The WRONG cable has an 8th inch STEREO phono plug on it and is BLACK. The RIGHT cable has an 8th inch MONO plug on it and it is WHITE.
