Sounds like you have accessed the test mode. Normally you would press the sql button 5 times just after the radio is turned on and it will enter the test mode. The blue button toggles between different parts of the test mode. I'll have to get the service manual out to remember the rest. My manual is at work, I'm at home. I'm sure somebody can fill you, by the time I get to it.

They are RSS programmable, so it'll depend. They can be set for various scan functions, monitor, light, etc...or left blank.

As mentioned you need to have the radio read
to find out for sure. If you're pressing a side button and getting a 'chirp' it's probably the 5 sec.(default setting) telling you the radio's in the permanent monitor mode. If you're pressing other buttons and getting different sounding tone either your getting the tone telling you the button is unprogrammed for any function, if you have a c or d revision radio and it's a steady tone as long as you hold that button probably is set up for singletone encode. Hope that helps.

The above sounds right to me also! Also to get in the "Test Mode" that bottom button has too be pressed 5 times, In Less than 10 seconds after it says "Self-Test" (or after it's turned on) if I recall right?
