There is an ongoing thread on elightbars.org about Talons and discoloration.
It's being debated that because of lack of heatsink, or the plastic and not aluminum housing, or yadda yadda yadda... the LEDs eventually run too hot and discolor. Blues turn aqua or greenish... Reds turn orangish..
One member said Whelen said that the Talons come randomly with up to 6 different colors of blue. One talon could come with number 3 blue leds... one could ship with number 6 color leds. One person said evidentally his talon had several different color style blues in his instead of uniform..
either way you go about it, Whelen is taking care of it's customers.. it seems.
Has anyone heard anything like this.. more so, has anyone experienced anything like this?
Talons discoloring after running too long/hot?

I have an amber Talon in my other hardly-used POV, and our unmarked Impala's have red/blue Talons...
The amber unit I have when on Steady burn will lose about half it's output after about 10-15 seconds...it gets noticably dim. Conversely, the new R/B Talons in the Impala's are brighter and do not fatigue like the amber unit on any setting.
I am getting ready to send my amber light back and tell Whelen where to shove it.

Do not make Sig angry...he'll just keep ringing the bell.

I know that in the 400 series super LED's that they say they are not for steady burn use. The Talons - like the Liberty bars - use the 500 series LED's and I have not seen this problem in any of our warning lights which can be running
It is true that the LED's as a batch can come in slightly different shades for blue and one other color I think. It just part of the manufacturing process I am told. I think they are trying to tighten it up somewhat, but who knows.
I'll see what I can find out from my sources
