Thinking of buying a JT1000 for HAM RADIO USE.
What would the price be for a NEW JT1000 VHF in CANADIAN FUNDS (or US dollars)
Thanks

Depends on if it comes with the programming key as well as the appearance and the age of the battery. Does it come with a mic? Etc.
All things above considered, $500.00 is a reasonable price.

Why get a JT1000? You're limited to 16 channels, you can't modify the alpha tags on the channel w/out the RSS anyways. You can get a 255 channel MT2000 and load every oddball 2 meter / 440 simplex frequency and repeater pair you can think of.

The last JT1000 I bought new (from an authorized dealer) was an intrinsically safe version with programming key, wide-band antenna, and dual-rate intellicharger. List price for all this was, I think, something over $1300 US. Pricing was similar for VHF and UHF units. If you are planning to use a UHF JT1000 for amateur use, you need the "R" frequency split, by the way.
Since this model has been discontinued, it may be difficult to find one without some searching. I have had an order in for a couple for several weeks, and my dealer (who did not have any in stock) is really having to search.
And by the way...I tend to disagree with some others on the board. If set up properly (to display operating frequencies and squelch codes) and used with the key attached, changing frequencies is pretty quick and easy. I also find that about 16 frequencies is all that can be readily managed in a radio at one time, also. But the other radios mentioned are also good units, if you don't mind being tied to the programming software to make changes. By the way...I find that the biggest problem with pre-programmed radios is not so much managing the frequencies as managing the squelch codes.
Good luck in your search!
