The latest version, on MOL, as of 8/5/04 is R05.08.07
As always, they may already be shipping something even newer from the factory...

Will an older version of CPS (04.xx.xx) work on the latest firmware, or will I need to get the latest RSS also? I know, not my thread, but I'll be getting a 1250 back from the Depot with the latest firmware and want to plan ahead.

I'll bet you will have to get CPS 6.05.

Firmware upgrades to not alter the codeplug. Old CPS will work.
I upgraded several radios from firmware 4.00.00 to 5.08 ? or whatever the latest was last month with no programming problems whatsoever.

But is the R04.00.01 version I have ok? Or what can I do to upgrade it?

the upgrade kit is a stand-alone piece of software that aside from the programming cable, requires a toggle box or "flash adapter" per Motorola that goes between the RIB and programming cable in order to enter the radio into bootstrap mode. If it works (iffy) it will upgrade the firmware. CPS makes no difference, I'm running the same.
