I don't believe that Motorola sells any parts for the Minitor IV other than the battery door since the unit (according to Motorola) has to be sent to the factory for all repairs. I was told that the unit uses some kind of electric weld to seal it and only Mother /\/\ has the magical secret for opening the damn things up. I know it can be done since our local FD has engraving on thier units and they keep coming back with the same case on them. Although, if I remember, all of the problems they have sent them out for seem to be software related and don't require them to be opened.

seems a couple of the Firefighters broke the rear belt clip from the case and I was trying to fine a cheap fix but sounds like a Motorola Flat rate charge.

I sent Deep Creek VFD back at you a couple of months ago for ten Minitor IVs thanks for helping them out !!!!
They asked me for a bid but at the time I couldnt help them with that big of an order.

When you call Motorola on this, you may get a different response each time. Last time I called, it was "the pagers are intrinsically safe (true) so we don't want anyone outside the Elgin Depot to repair them".
OK. Fair enough. Never mind that almost every pager Motorola has ever manufactured, including the Minitor II, was IS. They will sell you parts for those though. That's M for ya.
They are not tough to disassemble. Remove the battery door, remove the screw in the bottom, and give the belt clip a hard push down. There is a gummy adhesive holding it together.

I work for a large public safety agency communications shop. We have been changing the Minitor IV housings for a while now with no problems. They are easier to take apart and put back together then the Minitor III.
While on the subject of Minitor parts, does any one know the part number for the amber LED on the Minitor III/IV single unit chargers? They go bad quite often but last time I called parts ID, they didn't have the info on their computers.
Thanks
Pete

Thanks Steve, I appreciate the business. They ordered from me in the past as well, I think about a year or so ago. A cheap fix would be to just get some of the nylon carries for about $10.00 or so a piece. They have the belt loop on the back and are pretty duarable. Our dept. issued them with each pager as a preventitive step to try and eliminate this problem. The flat rate is, I believe, about $78.00. Absolutely ridiculous.

Pete,
You say that you are able to get the Minitor IV housings???
Please share some part numbers with the rest of us......
I have always been under the impression that there are absolutely NO service parts avaliable for the Minitor IV.

Well Wes,
After looking at these now, I think these might be Minitor III housing backs. The part number is 1562939B02 (Its the backs w/attatched belt clip in black). I don't have a Minitor IV pager in front of me right now to compare them.
But I could swear I changed some IVs recently.

I called parts ID looking for a rear cover and clip assembly and was told that there were no parts available for the Min 4 as well.
I have been able to get housing parts for the 3's.
Lotsa luck

If the pager is still under warranty, send it in. We have had no problem with damaged belt clips getting fixed for no charge.
What is BS about the factroy only rerpair is they will not even look at a unit it has any kind of liquid damge (even for T/M). We have a customer who's unit has had very minor liguid damge. It was opened and cleaned, and it has been working just fine for over a year now. The mode switch just craped out on them, and Motorola will not fix it. They just send it back with the note to contact your dealer for replacement.

We've had some pagers with slight water damage sent back saying they wouldn't fix them. And we've had submerged pagers with bad water damaged fixed by the depot. Go figure.

Typical "Motorola Mentality". One day it won't happen, the next it will. I honestly believe that everything that happens in that place has to do with who's on the rag and who is'nt on the particular day you (Insert task of choice here). It's just like the RSS/CPS issue. One day you can't get a license, the next day... "here you go Sir, enjoy". Go figure.

With regards to liquid damaged units, the repair simply cannot be guaranteed. As a repair facility we're screwed no matter what we do. If we refuse to fix it, the customer is upset because we 'don't care'. If we attempt to fix it and can't, the customer is upset because we 'didn't try' hard enough...it only had a 'little' water damage! If we repair it & charge accordingly & it happens to crap out in a few months, the customer is upset because we 'screwed him' on the repair since we couldn't guarantee it (even though we made that perfectly clear beforehand). Even if we repair it at no charge (since it can't be guaranteed) and it craps out say, 6 months later, more often than not, the customer is upset because he's had to bring the unit in a second time. It's ridiculous & a losing proposition all around.
This is not to say I haven't fixed a few units which the depot didn't, because I have, but I don't blame Motorola for not repairing them at all, regardless of the amount of liquid damage found.

Minitor pagers & radios

Everyone here has their view about Motorola including myself (which so far I can rate above average!).
Im sure radios & pagers (in general) were never ment to be liquid resistant anyways but if you think about it alittle Most firefighters wear them in hazardous conditions including the use of water (as an extinguishment tool).
As a small time radio & pager business, I've had firefighters bring me pagers (in almost un-repairable condition) and request them to be fixed.
I don't believe Motorola ever produced their radios & pagers to be used in these hazardous locations (extreme heat, water or chemical incidents).
I guess the next idea would be for firefighters to remove their pagers before going to the fire ???
Any other ideas
thanks
steve
