Repeater Linking Via Ethernet OEM Module

Has anyone used this module??? It is full duplex and has PTT in both directions...

I've been using this for about a year over our frame relay to link offices in Houston and LA. Works great, I'd recommend it. When I told someone I could contact our shipping office in Houston via my 1250, he laughed.....until someone answered...

Wow... this the first I've seen of a unit that doesn't need a server or local computer...

I seems like it would work to well for linking a repeater mountain-top with wifi and the module... with no on site computer...

It looks like it could be networked with multible units also.

I might order several of the modules and give it a test...

For some reason I could not open the pdf's, but I assume it has GPIO capability to handle PTT/COR signals, too?

I am thinking it would be a shoe in for repeater linking...

The problem with remote linking using IRLP and others is that you have to have a computer on site for it to work.

That is a problem with lightning, spikes and heavy RF that some sites have.

I received some info from Digital Acoustics.

At least, a point-to-point link can be established using the boards only. PTT and COR signals are achieved using the on-board GPIO signals LISTEN/GPIO4 and TALK.

I received a application note from them, here it is (MS Word document, 275kB);

The note is for attaching a single unit as a radio gateway, and then controlling it with the 'dispatcher' software TalkMaster. Generally it gives a good idea of capabilities of the unit.

According to their presentation, these things can communicate directly with each other, so the TALK/LISTEN signals would work on such for PTT/COR functions.

Now if you interface that to a tone remote line termination panel, you can use the PC Software to have radio communications at any PC on your LAN.

I don't see why you would need tone remote at all with this. The tone in tone-remote is what is controlling PTT on the radio. We've got GPIO on the device.

If your existing infrastructure is already tone remote, then it would make sense. Putting one of these in parallel on a tone remote circuit would allow you to TX and RX on the radio as well as hear what other parallel remotes are transmitting.

Obviosuly, if you are just trying to tie into the radio and aren't using tone remotes for anything, you don't need it.

A better solution which is not proprietary and is DTMF-addressable is at http://www.allstarlink.org. I have a system up and running off a mini-itx board with a compactflash as the hard disk. The whole system runs off of a 32MB compact flash and 256K of DDR memory using a Via ME6000 Mini-itx motherboard. and draws less than 25 watts.

We use the open-source Asterisk PBX software with a custom application
(app_rpt) to do addressable full duplex linking. Each node can act as its own conference bridge (reflector). Our system works more like the well-known addressable RF-linked systems out there.

The only downside to Allstarlink is that it needs Digium telephony boards and a radio interface card to interface to the radios. We are going to release a 4 port PCI controller card which doesn't require the use of telephony hardware n the next 3-6 months to more tightly integrate the system components.

Sounds similar to IRLP or other VoIP communications.

Talking to Europe via a HT is very cool.

So I take it this is geared more towards busines and public saftey?
