I know there are differences in the versions of case for A through D models of Visar. I'm trying to get what appears to be an earlier model DTMF refurb case to fit on a D series Visar.

Any tips on how to make this fit properly besides just buying a new D model case?

The later version Visars had a thicker control board in hopes that the radio would last for more than a week in service (it didn't). It requires a different plastic housing.

xacto and it is somewhat ugly... I got a couple off EPAY and the were for the thinner pcbs, but my Visars were later ones with the thick.

I got one to fit, but it was not all that great. It bulged a bit at the battery too and that really bugged me

I wouldn't put the thicker board in the older style housing. The two posts that keep the board secure to the flex are shorter in the older housing. Putting the thicker board in will cause a lot of stress in these posts and cause them to break again to soon. I imagine that with a DTMF pad in there they may break while putting it back together. And you will need to open up the two slots in the top of the housing as mentioned by Motradio. If the board isn’t flat, some components may break their solder joints or worse. The correct case is only about $12.00.

NAND is of course right, I had to see if I could do it, and the center post is a problem, I sliced them to support the clamp higher, but I ended up tossing the butcherd case and used a fresh one. It as I said was a waste of EPAY money, learned by loosing it

Thanks for all the replies! I guess i'll just buy the other kit. Seems every time I open the Visar something else doesn't work. What crappy radios.

nand, what is the number for the rubber pad?

im wanting to recase my D model, and have gone thru the same crap with the guy who sells the kit on ebay. The cases he sells are for a model A radio.

The above two items are kits that include a small clip and contain a 1505190Y01 or Y02 housing part number.

There are also several high cost kits that may include some other items like perhaps the complete speaker and flex assembly, but I don’t know. Here are the part numbers.

DTMF cover, NHN6723A for about $130
And there also are the Privacy Plus model covers that have the Privacy Plus logo on them.

I suggest that you verify the above items before ordering. Prices are guesses for US dollars.
