I heard that a dual band VHF/800 Ant. may be available? Can any one shead any light on this?

Sti-Co has one that the "G" uses it looks like a regular Black 800Mhz pigtail. It has a coupler box . The most comon was a trunk lip model. I have used a NMO style too..

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but I don't understand your post ("G" or NMO style)... I should probally say that I want to use with an XTVA. I guess what I am asking is the a dual band whip or is it an in depth thing to make work? (I am just a volunteer firefighter who is probally sticking his nose into technology beyond my knowledge?)

I have one of the Larsen NMO150/450/800 series that I use just for scanning, but if the frequencies you want to transmit on are within its range I don't see why it wouldn't work for you. Here's the product sheet:

When he reffers to the "G" he means the federal government. NMO is a type/size of mount that was first introduced by Motorola, these can also be called Motorola mounts. These are probably the industry standard in public safety.

Antenex, Maxrad, Larsen, STI-CO, Comprod are all reputable companies to obtain antennas from.

Performance is good, but looks are hideous...the loading coil is up high on the rod, and looks out of place.

Try the MaxRad or Larsen, either one will work for you.

I have used this antenna extensively and highly recommend it... The coil is located dead center in the whip half way between the base and the top. All around an great antenna for TX and RX
