Starting to have problems with my service monitor specifically the oven lamp going out after 10 or so minutes.
The other question is : In the FM monitor stage shouldnt I be able to use this as a standard receiver? if so whats the sittings

My two bits worth:
Oven ready lamp:
In the standard instrument the lamp is always on.
In the /HS version the "Oven " lamp will come on after 3 min or so, fully stable in 15 minutes.
The" Oven" indicator is controlled by a current sensor on the time base board.
The ovenized oscillator pulls high current while heating, however the frequency dithers until the oven stablizes.

Receive a signal:
An FM broadcast station, as well as TV aural require the IF filter to be set "wide"
Land mobile uses "Narrow"

Connect an antenna to the RF in jack, REC antenna port on the R2001D

Set the step attenuator to 10DB. Do not leave the step attenuator on "0" with an antenna attached, since a large signal can damage the receiver mixer.

GEN-PWR-MON sw to mon.
Select desired function, such as frequency display, spectrum analyzer, Mod scope, etc.
Enter the frequency you wish to monitor with the keypad.

What version R2001 do you have?
To verify if you have an /HS option look in the opening on the lower right (CRT) side.
If the oven completely fills the opening it is an HS, if you can see the top of the oscillator can you have a standard version.

Perhaps the only problem is that the "Oven Indicator" is set on the edge.
There is an adjustment on the A-13 for the "oven indicator".

Ideally, you would compare the 10Meg reference in your unit against a standard with a 'scope.
An ovenized oscillator will drift if the oven is defective.
This is the only other reason for the "Oven ready" lamp to go out in operation.
Alternativly,
Monitor a station that is likely accurate such as a simulcast paging station, see if the frequency display drifts or not.
If it is stable you could adjust the indicator.
By the way, eventually, you may to reset the CRT bias.
This shows up as poor blanking after half hour warm up.
