Okay I do not wanna get kicked off my first time or first post, but I have Gp300 and GP350, and just recently now have Kenwood TK353. The Moto are easy to program, but how do I program the TK353, I have the cable and software, but here is my question:

Do you or do you not have to put the radio on program mode, and if so, how do you do that. i heard their are two buttons you push at the same time....Is this true? If so, anyone know which ones they are? The software does not recognize the radio, it could be a problem witht he cable, but I am have to check all my ideas first.

Any help would be appreciated...thanks

To put the radio into program mode hold the lamp and lo buttons and turn the radio on. You should get -PC- on the display.

PROG is for firmware programming, not channel data. You want the LCD to show -PC-

I cleaned the contacts on the cable and the radio, and man did I clean them. Yet, still does not work, I need to get a copper brush? Correct? If that does not work, am i safe to assume it is a bad cable? That i a possibility right?
Thanks everyone

1. Are you in DOS?
2. Do you have the correct software, it will be for the 353, not 350.
3. Correct comm port?
4. Try to test the cable with another radio, it 's the same cable for a lot of Kenwood HTs (Ham also).
5. Don't use any thing abrasive to clean the contacts.
6. If it is the cable, you can get a Kenwood cable from HRO for 34.95. The P/N is PG-4Y . For this price, I would not even mess around with the ones on ebay, you will pay $10.00 to $15.00 more, but you have a GOOD OEM cable. I know the Commercial cable is not the same P/N from Kenwood, but the PG-4Y works just fine, and the plugs are the correct length. I have seen some of the Ebay units with the plugs just a bit shorter than the Kenwoods, you have to hold those all the way in on some models.

Good luck,

Jim.

Yeah my cable is an EBAY cable, they sending me another one, unfortunatley atthe moment I do not have another radio, to test it with, but I shoul dhave a couple I bought coming this week, so I will try that, and I was in DOS, and thought I was using the right COM port, I tried on both ports.... I honestly think it is the cable, and I think hence the advise will look at getting a new, cable from Kenwood. Thanks Jim for your help.
