trunk mount spectra in a Nissan Titan

Just bought I nissan titan. I have a trunk mount astro spectra. Where would be a good place to put the drawer. Can't put it on the back wall because the back window retracts into the back wall.

Also, what's a good way to mount the antenna? I took a real beating on my trade because of the four 3/4" holes in the roof even though I had put those nifty rubber plugs in them.

Anyone messed with one of these?

I got mine at Dayton last year, but you may be able to get them at a two-way shop. Last time I tried to buy some at a shop they were less than the minimum invoice, so they wouldn't sell them to me.

See if it will fit under the seat.

That's what I figured I would do. There is lots of room under the back seat. Nothing is flat though, & I didn't want to drill through a wiring harness or something.

Use a trunk lid mount on the hood like this. Looks better than those "L" brackets and obviously does no damage to your vehicle.

That looks great! I really like the whole "above and inside" look. I would do that more often if Maintenance on them were a little easier.

-WEC 8)

PS - I really like the look of the play set in the backround too :P

I did find one problem with mounting in the ceiling...

The DTMF mic does not like rf, & it is only about 1 1/2' from the antenna. If I bump one of the buttons, or do anything to cause the radio to transmit, it will stay keyed. If I have the mic in my hand and transmit, then there is no problem. I guess I need to pull the headliner down in the back and put in some shielding.

are they any kits to connect the mic to the drawer or a remote mount mic like the CDM Opt port?

Hey Jeff,

What is the diameter on those plugs? I bought some a while back from a place on-line and they were the nice large soft rubber type, must have been at least an 1 1/2" in diameter and sealed really nice. Unfortunately they don't carry them anymore.

I got a upcoming decommissioning of a company vehicle to help with that has three 3/8" NMO mounts in the trunk. The body shop only has the small plastic hole plugs in the 3/8" size, and though they are soft, they just don't look like they would seal as nice as the soft rubber ones.

The 3/8" plugs are 1.2275" on the "outside" part.

The 3/4" plugs are 1.4230" on the "outside" part.

Let me know if you want any more measurements.

Thanks,
Jeff

Snap one of there over the mic cord as close to the radio as you can. Since you have it remote mounted, get one for the remote cable too. That solves my RF problems most of the time.

I did one like that before, but what I did was buy the mic outshell for a dek and used cat5 and ran it down to the lower part of the dash. Then used a regular microphone and plugged it into a rj45 box that was hidden underneath the dash a little bit and put the strain relief on a screw so I wouldn't pull it out.

worked great and is still working 3 years later.

looks great!

Have you though of using a troy faceplat up there to hide the gape between the head and the overhead console?

Yes on the troy faceplate, & I will do that, one day, sometime, maybe...

The cavity is ugly & I need to do that.
