I was asked to change the frequency in a P-50 radio. I never saw one before it seems like a low end radio. Anyone know how this is done? Is their RSS? I'm told the P-100 Rss will work but where does the cable get hooked too? Any help at all would be appreciated.
Thanks
Howard

Take the battery off the radio and you will see two round contacts on the back of the radio near the middle. Those are the programming contacts and they are probably covered with a removable piece of plastic.

The programming cable on these radios actually is a block that attaches to the radio like a battery does, and then you attach a battery to the back side of the programming block.

P-50's are Crystal Radios. PL's on the P-50+ If I remember right could be changed with RSS but otherwise a rock bound radio.

P-50's are crystal controlled. I think Elroy
is thinking of the HT-50 (same radio as the
P-100 but tan in color).

P-50 & P-50+'s are crystal radios, they can be changed but it is an expensive option, at least it was when I did it five years ago.

The P-50+ can have 3 options programmed into the radio with software:

Option 1 - Quick Call II tones (the P-50+ makes for a great talk back pager)

Option 2 - PL/DPL Tones

Option 3 - I can't remember

For lowband radios, order KXN6341AA for receive, KXN6344AA for transmit.

For VHF Hi and UHF, order KXN6330AA for transmit, KXN6331AA for receive.

First try to get the RADIO SERVICE SOFTWARE for the HT50 / P100 Portable VERSION R04.00.00

Remove battery, you will see to round metal buttons deep into the platic. The top one is busy (pin 8 to RIB) the bottom is data (pin 24 to RIB)
Use 10 Volts to feed the radio and use the software to progfram, Hope you go ok

The P50 is crystal controlled. The SP50 is programmable via RSS. You will need to change crystals and align the radio.

Hi

Had my first P-50 apart. One of my bothers friends dropped it in a creek last year. He found it afew week ago and asked me if I would take a look at it. Pretty wild looking with mud caked all around it. I took it to work cleaned it with WD-40 inside and out. Let it seat for afew days cleaned it again with WD-40. Replaced all the contacts and battery. Now get this put the new battery in the radio and the things starts working but tx and rx. I still can not believe it. I do wonder how long it will work until it just dies but who know.

Adam

*********PS this radio is not programmable by RSS*********

There is a in Kansas City Missouri you can purchase both the tx/rx crystals
