Minitor V Response From /\/\

Well, I called technical support for the Minitor Division this morning on a whim and asked some specific questions about the new MInitor V. The fellow seemd pretty knowledgeble about them, but had to get an answer to my question of "did they finally move the chip under the belt clip pivot point?" At first, he claimed that he had never heard of any such problem. After explaining it to him that the III and IV models both had the same fault, he said he would check into it and let me know. Here was the response.
Charles,
Per or Product Planner the MInitor V is a complete redesign. This issue has been addressed regarding the
IC and the back housing.

Does this chip under the belt clip have anything to do with the decoder? It would make sense as no or intermittant decode is the main problem I have with them.

Yes RR that has been the major problem with good signal RX but no decoding of tones.
The IC would have presure placed against it and pop the cold solider joint and boom no decode at all.
I know we may buy one just to play with but I hope it is as good as they say it is.

Pricing is already available... shipping mid may.
Triple boards (boards, not layering) for increased component seperation, sensitivity as good (not better) as the M2.
Should be better than the black eye of the M3 & M4.

Sounds positive.
Any work on what general priving will be when they are available? I am probably going to need about 10-15 pagers for my various associations in a couple of months.

If you look at the specs it also takes a "Battery Pack". No more localy avaiable AAA cells, sounds like big $. I tryed to check on MOL but the part # given was discontinued.

quick question... what are they using to program these? would it be the same software as the M3/4?
Posted: Sun Apr 17, 2005 5:42 pm
by Station House Products
Nope. According to /\/\, this is a complete redesign and it will require both new software as well as a new programming cradle. In Motorolaese, this translates to $$$$$$.

So has anyone tested one yet? The Officals from my dept. where told in Indy last week that the Minitor IV orders would stop around the end of the month. This came directly from Motorola.
They did such a sell job that we may end up buying some.
WOW - Stored voice - Priority channel - 450 to 490mhz so we could have fireground in it also. Just what we need, something else to create feedback. I almost forgot 10 ring tones just what every firefighter needs!
We do not need the features IMHO, just need something that works like the Minitor II did
Hate to be so negitive but when your dealing with Motorolas pagers what else is there!
No one asked any questions like what does the charger amp do during a power failure, does it revert to non amped audio or go mute. How fast is the priority sample, will it be able to work with 750ms A - 750ms B tones or will we need to make the pre-key or A tone longer so the new wonder pager can lock on the freq without missing the A tone. Na we will just wait till we get some then complain they do not work.

It says 450-490 however looking closer it says max freq spread of 8MHZ.

Ditto. I was hoping a box with the new programming nest would show up too. Guess I should be thankful anyway. They also included a new registration card... guess you get more free updates. Make sure to fill it out!

When you order the software/hardware kit, you get a registration card. Fill out the card, and you receive updates. Surprisingly, it looks like Moto decided to give us Minitor IV registrants Minitor V software for free. Amazing...

Programming Stuff:
RVN4240A "Minitor V Programming Kit": List $50.00
RLN5709A "Minitor V Programming Nest": List $75.00
Battery:
RLN5707A "Minitor V NiMH Battery Pack": List $14.00
Standard Charger:
RLN5703A "Minitor V Standard Charger": List $38.50
I have no idea what's in the "kit" although most recent paging products "programming kits" are just the software and programming manual.

6005276L01 is the Minitor 2 battery. That lists for $10.00.
so... 2 little batteries in shrink wrap = $10 OR an entire battery pack for $14.
What's the problem?

I buy the minitor II battery aftermarket for a lot less than $10, I think it is more like $7. Now I have to go to Motorola and pay double the price X 300 pagers, that's a lot of money.
They do say that the receiver spec is at least as good as the Minitor II. Time will tell if it holds up as well.

how long do you think it will take untill MOST of the glitch's are taken care of?
Minitor V
Posted: Sun Apr 24, 2005 4:52 pm
by MassFD
There will not be any glitches, at least until the Minitor VI is made.
The Minitor VI will address all the non existing issues issues of the Minitor V just like the Minitor V addresses all the issues that Motorola would not admidt to about the Minitor IV.
The entire thing is a joke, a bad one at that.
Yet we keep buying into it. Read my Sig line

You need to be buying them from me then. Aftermarket nickle metal hydride batteries with a 14 month warranty for $4.00 a piece and we can ship up to 50 using priority mail for $3.85.

I get them for around $7.00. That's twice as much! And yea, it's cheaper than a radio batter.... IT'S NOT A RADIO.
