Interested in chatting with us? #batlabs on irc.dal.net!
I'm thinking about the possibility of setting up a time / place (maybe IRC?) to have a batlabs chat or something to that extent. i've chatted back and forth with a few people on AOL IM, and other services for that matter, and it seems interesting to learn more about who answeres your questions, and shoot the sh*t back and forth.
I'm wondering how interested people would be in having some sort of online get together persay.
What do people think?

Alrighty - I'm going to work on something with Jon and see what we can come up with. He's going to help me get IRCd setup so that I could run an IRC server on my system, or one of his. We'll figure something out. Using AOLIM chat is pretty crappy as it is, and requires you to have AOLIM installed.

IRC sounds good to me...
I'd love to chat with people via IRC (MIRC). Great idea, sign me up!!
I propose that a base channel #batlabs will be created to IRCnet.
If "sub-channels" like #batlabs-astro or similar are needed they are easy to create.
I propose the channel to be created to IRCnet as it is the widest IRC-network in the world, and it makes people easy to join all over the world.

At this point, I'd like to learn how to setup the server as it is myself. Also, if we run the actual server we have more control over it's uptime and other things. I find that most the irc servers go up and down a lot of the time, sometimes they loose their link to the master server, and some other things like that. At least this way it's either up, or down. There's no reason why you can't connect to a server in the US anyway.
Its going to take a bit of work, but in the next couple of days I think something will be proposed.

OK!
Jon has helped me out once again!
Here's where we will have the Offical, well, as official as I can say I guess Batlabs chat room.
We will be using DALnet, info can be found at http://www.dal.net. you can use irc.dal.net to connect, and join #batlabs.
I'm there now, will be there for a bit, your welcome to join up, if I don't catch you tonight, maybe tommrow.
Enjoy

I don't get it. I downloaded an mIRC program but I don't know what to do from here with it to get to a batlabs chat situation.

Here is how to get connected to MIRC and Batlabs chat chanel
You got MIRC, and have never used it before. Here is a step by step guide to connecting to the #Batlabs irc chat channel.
Open MIRC program
Click FILE|OPTIONS
Make sure Catagory(left side) is highlighted CONNECT
Click the ADD BUTTON (right side of Options screen)
In Description field, put: Batlabs
In IRC Server, put: irc.dal.net
In Ports field: 6667
In Group: leave blank (nothing/blank)
Click OK button
Now Click the botton: Connect to IRC Server
Wait till your connected to the Dal.net server
Now click on the "channels Folder" ICON (on the top, 3rd from the left)
Click the ADD button
In the Channel field type: #Batlabs
In the Password field type nothing (leave it blank)
In the Description field type: Batlabs chat channel (or put what ever you want)
Network: All
Click the OK button
Now just double click on the #batlabs (MIRC channels folder)
Your there.
Once you've done this, next time you start MIRC, just select MIRC OPTIONS, Click the Connect to IRC server button, then click channels folder, and double click on #Batlabs - done
I hope I got this correct. I did it step by step on my version of mIRC Version 5.82 to try to make it as easy as I could. Hope to see you all there!!

If you dal.net won't let you in, try... http://kline.dal.net/
Try enabling the identd server on your end. Try messing with the settings, until dal.net likes you. That's what I did.
PS: It'd be nice to pick a "hot" time to talk, so I don't spend all day in idle
