In the past couple of week, I have been seeing quite a bit of fragmented posts (usually asking the same thing about the Min5's) so, for everyones benefit, lets put them all in this thread for now and see how it works!

Well? Are the new pagers shipping yet? Has anybody received theirs, and if so - how are they working? Any problems?

At our FD, we had a local shop send us a bid for 30 new minitor IV's, and when they did, they say that they no longer can support or sell the 4's and that we had to go with 5's, plus pay like $2,000 more...

When we called another shop they said that they still sold 4's and now 5's too, and the prices were the same...

So I think if we pressed the issue the original bid still stands?

Per the Min V brochure, max freq seperation for 450 to 493.9975 MHz is 8 Mhz. You can try your 460.XXX to 471.XXX, but sensitivity will degrade.

We are a dealer. The IV's are cancelled. We can not buy them now, but people may have old stock. Our cost on the Min V is about 15% more expensive.

Got the first ones in hand this week. A bit more bulky (thicker), but a real good feel to it. Good knob action (can I say that here?), the battery pack idea takes a bit to get my mind wrapped around. We are doing VHF range tests next week.

Hello All,

I Work for a Motorola Dealer and we got our Demo Pagers in last week and we have been testing them thru rigours tests such as

Dropping it constanly

Sensitivy Tests

Software tests

The Pager so far has passed all and has out performed the Minitor 4 and 3's in sensitivity and Audio.

Battery Life is Awsome they last about 7 days

The rapid charger works great charges battery in 1 hr

The Replacble belt clips will help customer down time and when the belt clip is avaible it will.

Increase size and weight is a worth wild trade off however we hope motorola gets there act togher by shipping the right pagers in the right box. We recieved 50 pagers all wrong said 2 channel but put 1 channels in 2 channel boxes.

Found that there has been a Software Glitch there is a Software update avaible to Software Subscribers from Motorola.

How do I get the software update, will they just send it to me like they did for the original 5 software out of no where?

Also, where is the cheapest place for these?

Call Motorola and request Software they will send if you have a Liscnce agreement with them.

The Minitor 5 PPS NOT does require a license like RSS / CPS. Just order the part number, and they'll ship it to you. Pager software is much different that radio software in terms of licensing.

just saw the 5 today, its a little thicker than the II. Looks nice. Looks durable but I like the 4 better. Maybe because its what I am used to. Supposedly it has better sensitivity than the II.

I've had mine for a week or two. I like it. A little thicker, but not noticeable when it's on your belt. Removable / replaceable belt clip is nice when the time comes and battery life is better than a 3 or 4.

Sensitivity is almost as good as a M2, MUCH better than a Min 3 or 4.

The software already has a known bug, with a fix being issued. (Deals with On/Off duty.)

All in all, so far so good.

I held one in my hand at the Chief's show in Springfield over the weekend. They 'feel' a little more robust than the III and IV. The volume knob works properly instead of turning off the pager at low volume.

I have two on order from our local dealer, will report my personal findings upon playing with them.

just looked on MOL, current version is 1.1.1 Is there a big difference, will they be sending an updated copy, or do I have to send the $50 and get a new copy. What should I do, should I call motorola and ask?

and

Can I buy the 5 directly from MOL, if so, whats the part number?

If you're on the subscription list, you'll get one sooner or later. They aren't tremendously quick. You're welcome to call and ask.

If you have a regular customer account, I don't think you'll be able to order a MinV online.

To give you a part number, you'd need to specify:
- Single or dual channel
- Non-stored-voice or stored-voice
- Intended frequencies (there are 4 lowband splits, 4 vhf splits, and 11 uhf splits)
- Standard or amplified charger
- 1, 3, or 5 year warranty

how long should it take if i am on the subscription list and how can I find out if I am on it.

I need one vhf 2 channel and one vhf 2 channel with sv. I was going to buy the chargers seperate. and don't care about the warranty.

Thank you.

If I have a regular account, how can I get a "special account" to order these?

You have to be a dealer. You still need to tell me what frequencies you want to use so I can give you the correct bandsplit. Why would you want to buy the chargers separate? They'll cost you a bundle separate, and it's only a $38.50 savings (list) if you omit the standard charger (the amplified charger is a bit pricier, but probably overkill).

i can get the chargers from MOL. how can I become a dealer? 151-158.999, the rest is listed above.

Becoming a dealer is a long, involved process - translated, won't happen unless you have a real corporation, plan on doing this full time, don't have too many dealers in your area already, etc. You'll have to go through an already-existing dealer, and if you're doing that, why not get the charger as part of the package? Does not compute.

VHF 2-channel non-stored voice:
A03KMS7239_A ($489.00 list)
Y39 bandsplit (N/C)
STDCHG0136 charger (N/C)
STDWAR0136 warranty (N/C)

VHF 2-channel stored voice:
A03KMS9239_A ($534.00 list)
Y44 bandsplit (N/C)
STDCHG0136 charger (N/C)
STDWAR0136 warranty (N/C)

Just got my minitor V after waiting 3 months. The pager is alittle big but working great so far....

I was just issued mine today. It is quite a bit larger and heavier than my IV, almost like a Visar with a slim battery,no antenna, and 14 channels missing !!!
The rapid charger is a nice upgrade. However mine seems to have a high pitched whine while charging.
I'm on the fence with the battery gauge, I have a feeling it will turn out like the Waris', not very helpful until its too late.

I'm not so sure about the battery pack either, while it seems like a good idea I loved the III's & IV's. Battery dead? throw the batteries in the charger and put some AAA's in the pager. And I can only imagine how much a replacement battery will cost!

I guess time will tell on performance, but I have a feeling it will be similar to all the other minitors I have had,,,, pager go off----get on big red truck!

Sometimes I wonder if pagers are the best thing for volunteer FD's. That way, member's can't pick and choose calls, they hear the whistle, they go. But it does help to tell you whether to take your time getting there, or try and get killed. Announcements are nice with pagers too.

How many places do you think actually rely on a whistle, horn, or siren for primary alerting? Whistle/Horn/Siren sounds only carry so far... not far enough.
