I just modified my sp50.mdf file in Hex Workshop by following the instructions here on batlabs to convert a SP50 2 channel to a 10 channel and I have very weak receive audio on all of the channels but the transmit works at full power on all of the channels. I am unsure if the RX was weak to begin with because I bought the SP50 used and just went ahead and programmed my freq's into it. I wouldn't think that the hex mod would have anything to do with it. It lets me add the channels, configure them, scan them, etc. Anyone know if I did anything wrong? Thanks for any help,

I do not know if this could be related to a program issue but I seriously think not. There is a common problem with the sp50 radio, one is intermittant receive and normal audio. This common problem is associated with either the volume pot, accessory jack (speaker mic plug) or the .039pf cap next to the vol pot and finally the speaker. IF you can push your monitor button down and hear static but it is very low try sticking in the speaker mic and find out if it is normal, if it is then you will have to replace your speaker, another way is to flex the radio while holding on to the mon button and flex the vol knob, if the audio comes back or cutts out you will need to replace the vol pot. What I do when I service them and it has that problem I replace the vol pot, accy jac and the .039pf cap minimum. If you want to check your speaker, open the radio and pull out the the speaker and apply gentle pressure on the speaker itself and find out if it is loose or tense, if it is tense ( real tight) then your speaker is most likely bad. If you need anymore help you can email me ar 2wayguru@home.com

The cermaic filters in the receiver go bad if the radio was dropped. If the "squelch noise" is normal and the rec sensitivity is very poor, I'd suspect the cermaic filters. At worst is a failure of the crystal filter in the hi IF 45.1mhz if, and lastly a bad second conversion crystal. The crystals seem to crack at the base where the leads are. They flex if not properly mounted with the silicone gasket and close to the circuit board so the crystal can not flex.
NOTE a common problem on some other portables like the P100, Gp300/P110.
