I have a Inspiron 5150 from 8/2004 that has a basic microsoft "sound recorder"
I also bought this month a Inspiron 2200.. It has no Sound Recorder?

Can I transfer the soundrec32.exe from the 5150 to the 2200?

Or is there a link I can download it someplace?

thanks for any help.....
using WinXP home on both pc's Jim

Just copy over the sound recorder executable and try it. The worse that could happen is it won't run or won't work.

The reason is usually due to the sound hardware install, some install their own mixer and remove the windows apps, some don't. I have two nearly identical desktops, but they have different soundcards, on one the sound recorder dissapeared after installing the sound card drivers and software, on the other it stayed.

Download a little program called 'DLLShow' onto the computer with the working sound recorder. Start the sound recorder, then start the DLLShow. The soundrec32.exe should be listed in the DLLShow screen. Click on that and all the associated DLL files will be listed. Whatever doesn't exist on your new 2200, copy them over to the directories shown in DLLShow. Then it should work.

Have you been into Whinehozed "add remove programs" and then "add remove windows components" to see if you can add it back in there?

Good thought, but it doesn't appear to be in there.
