GP68 Programming ??

Post by markf1850 »

Can someone give me information on how the GP68 is programmed. I read the thread from the GP68 information and it seeems that it is keyboard programmable. I'm looking at one and need just this information to make a decision. Thanks

I have both the u & v versions and yes they are keyboard programmable. I have nothing bad to say about them except that the remote mic plug sucks. I have to wrap the mic cable arount the clip or the starp of the case if I am using it that way. I also have an extra speakermic if you are interested, pm me and we can discuss it.

What radios do you own?: Motorola FR50!

Press the X button to get the radio into frequency mode, then enter your frequency. Then press and hold the yellow side button until the display flashes a channel number. Use the rotary knob to select the channel you want that frequency on (1 through 20), then press and hold the yellow side button again to confirm.

This is a pdf of the AP73 instruction manual. It's basically the same radio as the GP68 except it only covers the ham bands. Still, all the functions are the same.

What radios do you own?: Progreso soup can with CRT

GP68 radios...

Three negatives about these radios:

1. No alpha display.

2. Only 20 channels.

3. No Motorola support in the USA for the radio.

The speaker/mic should stay plugged in. The same unit is used on the
GTX, GP300, P110, and maybe other units as well, and on my GTXs it
stays plugged in and only is removable with a strong pull.

To add: I don't find them nearly as "durable" as other Moto handhelds I've owned.

The keypad programming ability is for a "dealer master" radio.
to achieve this a hardware change must be done in the radio.
It is all in the discussions. If yours already does this then the
dealer mod has been done. The idea was that a dealer could
program one unit then clone it into the users unit. Phrawg
