cp200 programming cable question

Looking at the diagram for the cp 200 cable is this a stereo plug?looks like the tip isnt used and does this go into the mic hole on the side.just making sure.havent done a cp200 so dont want to smoke a nice radio.does this cps look for version of software when programming radio.any help on programming a cp200 will be a great help.
