Programmable UHF MSF5000 "CLB"- Mod-Using a UHF-R1
Programmable UHF MSF5000 "CLB"- Mod-Using a UHF-R1225 Radio?
Has anyone ever heard of this Mod...I would like any information on it if possible...
It sure would make the CLB Msf5000's more desirable to use and change parameters...
Please email me...
Phil...

Hey Phil. I'm not too sure what it is you're asking. Are you asking how to modify an MSF to be an R1225? If so, I don't think that's possible as the R1225 is on a totally different level. The MSF is an infrastructure repeater whereas the R1225 is more of a low-duty repeater.
Not just that, but physically they are totally different.

UHF MSF5000 CLB Programmable Upgrade...
I don't have any information except second hand about a MSF5000 field modification to make a CLB PROM type station into a computer programmable radio.. Possibly using a R1225 board or similar...have you ever heard of such a thing...Phil

Thanks Bernie
I think it may be eaiser to install a cxb board...Phil
Knowing what I do about MSF5000s, I can't see how any other radio could be integrated into the station to make it PC-programmable. I suppose you could use something like a MaxTrac, set for 3-6 watts, to drive the power amp, but that wouldn't do much as a receiver. The synthesizer and VCOs are just too much an integral part of the RF tray. Maybe someone could figure out how to program the synthesizers with some binary data, but then you still need to do all the transmit audio, PL/DPL, and squelch stuff outside the box.
It probably would be easier to just find a CXB in the first place.

Yeah, I did, and I'm still scratching my head. The ad has been around for several weeks now. I also see what looked like two strips of Velcro on top of the control tray. I wonder if that's where they mounted the R1225 radio? All I know is that the model number they say it was converted to is NOT an MSF5000 model, but it sure looks like a CDM or R1225 number, and I have serious doubts as to the reality of the whole thing.
But, maybe someone really has done it. People have synthesized HT440s, so maybe this IS possible.

More likely they're using the MSF 5000 PA & Power Supply & internal RF stuff with an R1225, and that control tray & RF Deck from the MSF 5000 is disconnected.
I don't see any feasable way that a "conversion" could be done... Even if it could, you'd end up with two receivers and two transmitters.
In all likelihood, the velcro was probably from a ZETRON interconnect or something of that nature that was removed.
It still cracks me up to see these $1,000.00 MSF's on eBay... With no bids of course.
I just bought a UHF CXB station for $300.

It was in fairly good shape, yes. I've reprogrammed and realigned the VCO's, and done a rough tuning of the injection filters, and it's operating as a 15W repeater right now with the PA disconnected. Once I have time to run it through the service monitor, I'll sweep the pre & post filters, align the front end, and hope it works.kcbooboo wrote:$300 - that's an excellent price! Repeater or base? Was it in good shape, and does it work properly? I managed to get a couple for that price that had problems which were easily fixed. Too bad there aren't more around like that.

It was a 403-435 station that's now running in the 440 area.
