I found this today on Repeater Builder. Very easy to read, step by step. I wish this was around a few years ago when I first started messing around with MaxTracs.

There's a follow-up article to it that tells you how to perform surgery on the VCO to get even a non-talk-around radio to receive 902-928 MHz. Same site, in the Motorola/MaxTrac section, same author.

Actually there's a LOT of good info on that site in the Motorola section !

For the repeater receiver mod, you can also use a Desktrac receiver, which normally receives in the low end of the 800 MHz band. This can be done without any modification to control lines by using the image frequency.

It is only necessary to change the front end filter, then program a frequency 90.2 MHz below the desired 900 MHz ham freq (the image). For example, I use 902.6625, so I programmed the Desktrac RX for 812.4625.
