I have been looking at getting a jedi series radio.

The MTS2000 Caught my eye but after doing research I am just a little stumped.

Do you need a smartRIB to program the options in the radios (Like buttons and freqs) or can you do with the regular rib?

you only need a smartrib to flash the radio, a regular rib will do buttons and frequencies just fine.

You can use the standard RIB as stated by the above posts, as well as 'most' aftermarket designs too, like Polaris and Sandy Ganz and even the ones by Kawa on Ebay are usable(I have one in the van and it works great).

The cables are another matter...buy or build your own, get factory if possible, or.....get out the schematics and fabricate your own.

Saber cables are ultra simple once you have the connector with contacts, same goes for the Jedi series.

If you have a dead vehicle adaptor, you can 'transform' it into a programming adaptor quite easily, I did this to a D.O.A unit I had, holds the radio firmly and does not cause errors due to movement of the pins on the accy connector, but you DO have a lot of desoldering to perform to make it work though, then comes reassembly!
